Even good quality Sony products sometimes have issues with some models.
Quote “Sony has responded to consumer complaints regarding it SXRD rear projectors. This issue has required the replacement of the “optical block, which contain the imagers within its light engine . This has been an expensive “out-of-warranty” replacement. Sony’s website now states” Sony Addresses Its SXRD HDTV Reliability Issue http://hdguru.com/?p=99 |

These problems along with a "Soft picture" on all but the xbr2 models led me into the DLP world. I would have never thought A year ago that I would have bought a samsung DLP over a Sony SXRD, but here we are.
I sold two sony 3LCD's in the last 3 months and now have a Samsung 46" LCD LNS4696D Samsung 50" DLP HLS5087W Couldn't be happier. |

I had a Samsung HL-R6768W DLP and had two issues with the picture. One was a reddish stripe horizontally across the top portion (difficult to see) and the other was that the left side of the screen running vertically and the bottom right quarter of the screen were lighter than the rest of the picture in dark scenes. After a few tech visits and a swap out for a new 6768W, the issues were still present. I then was able to see the issues on the same model in two different stores. End result was that the red stripe issue was fixed with a redesigned lens cover and the other issue never fixed. Samsung later admitted it was a manufacturing defect. Needless to say, it took one and a half years of constant follow up to Samsung and I still never got the second issue fixed. I really loved the Samsung outside of the issues obviously. I finally was able to swap it out for the Sony KDS-R70XBR2 and the TV is outstanding. I haven't seen any of the green or yellow blob issues.

Hopefully they'll come back firing on all guns for the next round of SXRD sets.

I recently purchased a Sony SXRD and I am impressed by its performance. One thing I hate to see, however, is the pixelation affect while watching an action sequence on a 1080i broadcast. Any ideas how to calibrate the SXRD so this is minimized or better yet, eliminated?

I don't get that. Is it happening on over the air channels only?
Try turning off 'Noise Reduction' & anyother enhancement off/low. The Only enhancement in I have on is Gamma & that is set to low. Set the TV to custom so you can tweek more to get the best image, too. If that doesn't help please list your Picture Setting & then we can go from their. |

I actually sell high end TVs and audio equipment for a living, including the SXRDs and we've had many problems with those sets. We've had to replace quite a few of the ones we've sold. Settings have a little to do with this, but overall the SXRD chip has been somewhat problematic. It's been a little better in the second gen models (KDSR-60/70XBR2), but not gone completely. This has led many of our customers to go with either the Samsung or Mitsubishi DLPs. Personally I like the Mits better (this is what I have, Diamond Series)but I like the Sammies too.

First -gen 1080p DLPs had a huge problem with the optical actuator. I believe it was like a 20% or greater defective rate. It was such an issue that Tweeter/HiFi Buys thought it might end 1080p DLPs for a while. But, they got that moving part issue mostly corrected in 2nd-gen models. Now, there are mirror box issues popping up in current models of DLP (mainly with Samsung). But, if I had to go with a DLP, it would be the Mitsubishi Diamond Series.
