I just did a ton of rewiring and design to accomodate 7.1 with one subwoofer. So now I need the jacks for TWO subwoofers!!! This is madness! |

You don't have to use 2 subs, but it does give you the option of using 2 with the 2 LFE outputs on the back.

same signal..... now as far as placement, it depends on the room.... as far as "gimmick" I don't think so, but I do think 99.9% of the people here can accomplish the desired effect with one good quality sub.

I ordered the Onkyo 605 last night: http://www.ecost.com/Detail.aspx?edp=38607351
It's on sale for $259.99 plus $30 shipping, so $290 total. I was debating between this one and the Sony, but I ended up going with this one after finding out that the Sony STR-DG720 has push plugs but no banana plugs, on the back. Also, the Onkyo 605 decodes TrueHD and DTS-HD onboard, which wouldn't necessarily be as useful now, but it definitely would if I got a standalone. EDIT: It's refurbished but comes with a one-year warranty from Onkyo (parts and labor). Last edited by bkbluray; 04-25-2008 at 04:08 AM. |

That being said, I have 3 Pioneers and am very happy w/them. I have an Elite 92 that I bought in December. It sounds and looks great, has all the features I want, and it decodes all the formats. Of course, since I have a PS3, the receiver never 'gets to' decode anyway... If you can, listen to the top 2 or 3 models you're considering thru the same speakers you have or will buy. Each manufacturer has their own unique sound, and the same receiver can sound different thru different brands of speakers. Here's an article that may help: http://www.finishabasement.com/home_...a_receiver.htm. |
