At 10-feet from the TV you will need:
77" for optimal detail on a 1080p set based on 1 arcminute of visual acuity for 20/20 vision 48" for a 20-degree field-of-view angle (minimum recommended by most manufacturers) 75" for a 30-degree field-of-view angle (average manufacturer recommendation for immersion) 100" for a 40-degree field of view angle (THX ideal for immersion) |

If you buy a large set, when the box first enters your home, you will say, "Damn, I have to send this back..it's much too big.".
Then you'll open the box, see the set is smaller than the box, but you'll still think you bought too big. Then about two months later, you'll say to yourself, "I should have bought the next size up". If you only watch TV, you don't need that big a set. But if you watch movies more than passively, you need as large a screen as possible in order to even come remotely close to being enveloped by the image, the way you would be in a decent movie theatre. IMO (and I live in a relatively small apartment), 55" is the absolute minimum size to buy if you're watching movies. When I buy again, it will be at least 65". Remember also that when you watch widescreen movies (with an aspect ratio of 2.4:1), the image will not take up the full screen height - it will display in 74% of the height. So if you watch a lot of wide-screen movies, you should buy a set that is 25% taller than what you thought you needed. Last edited by ZoetMB; 10-15-2013 at 02:03 AM. |

Well, good news is I got approved at best buy for a credit card. Bad news is it doesn't quite cover the cost of it all, but it comes close. They gave me a 2k credit limit. But I can cover the difference with cash/or a regular credit card. 2,000 / 24 months isn't too bad. I game a lot (3-4) hours everyday, so I think my best option is the vt60. I do look at my 42" and go damn thats small, so I think 60" is my best option just because I don't want it to shrink too much over time. I plan to get it on Thanksgiving night. Is the Best Buy delivery service okay? Or should I bring it home in a truck with my brother. It's about a 20 mile highway drive to the magnolia store. I expect the 60vt60 to be $1,999 on black friday there. For reference to the pictures, a 60vt60 would be edge to edge exact on the black glass on my tv stand. both are 56" wide. I'm also curious as to how big the picture quality jump will be. In going from a 2010 720p lg (42pj350) to the 60vt60. Last edited by COLD_COBRA_; 10-15-2013 at 04:21 PM. |

The set is currently $2300 on the Panasonic website. They claim they only have a few left. So there is a chance that BB will be out by Thanksgiving. As for delivery, I couldn't say as I never shop at BB or any other major chain if I can help it. |

You said you game a lot? have you looked over reviews for the Input LAG on that set. Most plasmas have higher input lag times then LED/LCD and some are better then others. I think CNet is including an input lag test in their reviews now and that would be a good way to help identify a set that works well for you. I remember seeing somewhere that the s60 had better performance as far as input lag goes over the ST60 but not sure about the VT60. Hands down the VT60 is supposedly the better set in terms of picture quality but the ST60 has been stated as being a better overall value for your money and a darned good picture in its own right. Just something to think about.
Before you pull the trigger and accrue credit card debt I would do some serious research to make the most informed decision you can for your money. And a decision that also makes the most sense for your needs as well. Hope that helps T |

Yes, the input lag is 47ms, under 60 would be acceptable to me in a new tv. My current tv has 60 ms, and I was still able to have a 2.6 kd in mw3. I was the clan leader of 95 people, and likely better than most players, but I never really noticed input lag on the set. The VT60 in game mode apparently brings input lag to 22-25 ms, which is very very good I think. I mostly play single player and trophy ***** now, but one day i'll get back into fast twitch 60 fps shooters. Which the vt60 would be plenty fine for. The st60 has 73ms input lag, quite a bit higher than the VT. I hear this is due to the st60 having a slow processor?, and the vt having a dual core first party processor. Either way, it's a nice bonus and since i'm upgrading both size and quality, I might as well swing for the fence. |

However after the initial deal I'd get rid of that card, BB's cards are designed to suck money out of you, not give you good deals. |

I've made my decision, only thing that can stop me is them not having it. The week of black friday I will go to the store to check stock levels and see about any hidden fees. Last edited by COLD_COBRA_; 10-17-2013 at 03:20 PM. |

There are no hidden fees with the Best Buy card. I have it and it's been great.
Remember that you also get Reward points as well (assuming you're signed up for it). Also, I recommend using their delivery service, as I have also had a positive experience with that aspect as well. Very professional and fast. And it's free, so nothing to lose, other than that you may have to wait an extra day or two. |

You will notice a difference in picture quality, from a 720p to 1080p image, especially with blu-ray. With blu-ray, you must have a 1080p HDTV to see the full optimal video resolution that blu-ray has to offer. You will be amazed! Last edited by slimdude; 10-17-2013 at 04:26 PM. |

I know they do shrink over time, especially if taken from a small room to a bigger room. My 42" was always fine for a bedroom tv, in the living room not so much lol. I also seem to be sitting closer than most people. It's really only about 8.5' away from where my eyes would be on the couch to the tv stand. But yes, people saying immediately after getting a 60" they wish they would have gotten a 65" or bigger is troubling. All those cases they were further away than what my couch is though. I also can't stand to have the tv bezzle hang over the tv stand, I bought the tv stand in mind for a 55" but room to go to a 60" I was going to get the 55" just because I thought hmm, in a couple years it will be a nice bedroom tv when I get a house. But I kept trying to convince myself 55" was big enough, so i'm going 60" anyway i'm really excited for Thanksgiving. I wouldn't be surprised if Best Buy opens at 8pm Thanksgiving night this year. That will be a fun day! Last edited by COLD_COBRA_; 10-17-2013 at 05:56 PM. |

Well, I've seen the light. I was at my moms yesterday watching their 60" from 14' away and it started to seem small, at that distance a 75' would probably be right. I see what you guys are talking about. What puts it into perspective is, I've never been to a theater and been like, nope this screen is way too big. So why would it be any different for a tv.
I can't believe I was ever considering the 55", even at 8-9' away. I'm still getting the 60' as the 64.7" isn't a drastic jump over the 60" and of course more than I want to spend. 2k is right where i'm comfortable at. If the 60" starts to shrink too much, i'll move my couch closer lol. What do you guys do for a warranty? I know the stores love selling these, but for a tv like this I would sleep better knowing I had one. Is the square trade one you can buy from amazon okay, even if you don't get the tv from there? |

if you have the room, get the biggest you can afford but make sure it fits with your room. nothing worse than someone with a tv that is way too big for the room they have it in - hard to enjoy a movie when you can't see the tv properly.
