Default Be Kind Rewind on Blu BEFORE DVD? - Not really

As shown on our homepage, it appears Warner Brothers will be releasing "Be Kind Rewind" on Blu-ray one week before DVD.

I truly believe this helped DVD become a more purchased medium.

What are your thoughts?

PS. I searched to see if there was a thread on this, but didn't see one...

It's a safe movie to do these experiments on. It appeals to the enthusiasts and won't disrupt bottom line too much

It's a great film.

I wish they would have done this with "There will be blood" I'm not planning on renting this, let-alone buying it!

So was this just from an accident, like the HD was ready before the DVD for some reason, or was this on purpose to experiment with the market for HD and maybe promote Blu?

ALSO, I am so glad this is coming to Blu, I wanted to see this and never saw anything but the DVD advertised. Now it looks like we will get it first!

Did this ever come out in the theaters nationally, or was it just in limited release? I saw the previews for it and was dying to see it, but then never saw any commercials or ads in the paper for it locally...

I guess now will be the issue of the store associate understanding that its correct and not holding the merchandise back thinking the dates wrong

I am really impressed with Warner's committment to making High Def media successful.
First they shift the HD-DVD releases 3 weeks later than the Blu-Ray counterpart, now they are testing the waters with early Blu-Ray releases compared to their DVD counterparts.

Don't know anything about this movie, but I'm half tempted to buy it just to support this move.

Although it's nice to see Warner doing this, I don't think it will have much impact because this movie was marketed poorly and did nothing at the box office. It would be better for them to do this on a slightly more recognizable film and see what the results are. I just have a feeling that there marketing dept. will look at this and say, "See, nobody wants films like this on blu-ray, it was out for a week before the DVD and nobody bought it."

It is about a guy who accidentally erases all the tapes in a video store his friend works at (magnified). So to continue to rent the movies, they record their own version of the films with them staring in the rolls.

it got decent reviews and looks very funny. Stars jack Black and Mos Def (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).

Yes it did. About 1000 theaters I think. It bombed out in a lot of smaller markets ,but it hung around here for a month and a half with a full slate of shows, so it was doing pretty well.

PS. I searched to see if there was a thread on this, but didn't see one...
When I saw this topic thread it reminded me of the signs on some dvds at a rental place that is no longer there.. pause..

They had a sticker on the dvds that said Please be kind Please rewind on the cases...

We came up to the clerk and appologized for not rewinding our dvd movie...

They also put the same stickers on snes games, I personally appologized for my failure to rewind the snes game...

Some actually did not get the joke at first preparing to charge me a did not rewind fee.

Great to see Warner release the BD version before the DVD. Hopefully, we will see more of this.

Well, I would be excited if they actually started doing this with movies people actually cared about buying. This movie was terrible.

65% of the critics beg to differ... and 72% of film goers...
according to rottentomatoes.com

Sure it is not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it is popular enough, as an underground cult hit, that it would worth watching on Blu.

I will at least rent this.

What does There Will Be Blood have to do with Be Kind Rewind? You keep posting about it (even in the thread on the home page) but I don't see the connection between the 2 films.
