Saw this on the net - Not sure if posted already - 10 Facts You May Or May Not Know About the PS4
1.The hard drive in the PS4 is the same as the PS3 version; it is a standard 2.5-inch notebook hard drive. However, the PS4 can also fit “hard drives with a height of 12.5 millimeters.” (3 TB laptop hard drives here we come!) 2.The user interface of the PS4 is different, as we all know. However, they mention that it doesn’t take very long to adapt to the layout of the user interface; it’s very user-friendly. 3.The PlayStation 4 only features an HDMI port. There are no AV or SCART outputs. 4.The noise levels of the PS4 are significantly lower than the PS3. After 10 minutes, at a distance of 40 centimeters, the PS4 reached sound levels of 0,815 sone and only a slight noise is heard. The original PS3 reaches sound levels of 0.83 sone after 10 minutes. After an hour, the PS4 only reached 0.83 sone while the original PS3 reached 2.1 sone. Check the very bottom of the post for a graph to get a general idea of how loud these measurements are. 5.The Wi-Fi on the PS4 runs with “802.11 b / g / n” which is very fast. 6.The PS4 weighs in at 2,764 grams (6.09 pounds). The Dualshock 4 weighs in at 214 grams (0.47 pounds or 7.5 ounces). The Dualshock 3 controller weighed in at 190 grams (0.42 pounds or 6.7 ounces). 7.The PS4 features an AUX port. This port is located on the back of the console and is used to connect the PlayStation Camera. 8.The PS4 needs 21 seconds to fully boot up. However, this was tested on a developer kit so this could change by launch. The console was not connected to the internet during this test. 9.The console plays movies at 4K resolution. However, games retain their resolution of either 1080p or 720p. Implementing a 4K resolution to games would essentially cost game developers far too much money. 10.As you already know, the PS4 can play Blu-Ray movies as well as DVDs. However, the console doesn’t seem to play audio CDs. The feature may become available in the future, though. Link -> http://www.spawnfirst.com/news/10-fa...about-the-ps4/ |

Doesn't play audio CD? Really? So no more ripping CD's like I currently do? Hmm, not sure I believe that!

The pawnfirst list is a weird mix of "nice to know" and .. "well, that's kindof your opinion man".
Here's a list I pulled myself ![]() - From the new Playstation App (IOS/ Android) you can order from the PS Store, and have whatever you have ordered installed on your PS4 before you come home. The downloads can also be managed from the background while you play (a dedicated chip means no CPU resources needed), or be managed at night along with updates. - The new Interface is called "Playstation Dynamic Menu", or PDM. It will change with your interests and be customizable. It will be very reminiscent of a "Game-ified" Facebook in the sense that it will be organized by center of interest and by friend activity. If you have no friends (/jk) and are not interested in social medias, it will simply be tiles centered around your own activity, period. - One PS4 has to be desigated as your "Home" Console (your "main if you like"), but you can play your games from any PS4 as long as you sign in as yourself. From that "Home" Console though, anyone can play your content (installed on it), wether theey log as themselves or you. - Two persons can use the same PSN account at the same time, including games, as long as one of the 2 is your Home console and the "other" console is logged with your account. - The new PS Eye (camera) can shoot in 3D, and has 4 directional microphones. Voice regognition will be a feature. Also, even though it is supposed to be compatible, the PS Move is not neded anymore due tothe DS4 lightbar and the improvements made to the PS Eye. - The HDCP protection (HDMI) will not be activated on Games -if- the Publisher/devs allows it (it will always be active on Blu-Rays, and probably DVDs as well). - Your 1 PS+ sub covers -all- your Playstation devices, including PS3, Vita, PS4 and eventually (we hope) PS Vita TV, so all your content can be accessed with 1 sub. - The switch from interface/ Apps to Game will be instantaneous. Content will not run simultaneously though (Game will suspend if you go to Menu/ App), but that also means that (significant) hardware resources do Not have to be dedicated to that. - You can click the Touch Pad on top of swiping/ touch. Also the touch pad is multi-touch (2 points) - If the PS4 was to overheat, instead of having its components be damaged, it would automatically power down and let you know there is a problem. The Blue LED line would also change to red. - The PS4 LED Line as well as DS4 lightbar can change color but it might not be user customized (the PS4 Led Line color seems to be indicative of hardware feedback, like overheating). - The PS4 lightbar LED -can- be turned off by the game devs if needed. It can be used for more than Motion control too, the color is Game developper selectable and could be a sort of "Ambi Light". - The DS4 basic functions will be natively PC compatible (USB) - So guessing everything short of the Share/ Options/ PS buttons, and possibly the touchpad which may require a specific driver. - PS Vita Remote Play of your PS4 will work everywhere, not just in your house - As long as you have a good (to very good) WiFi access point. - The following services do NOT need a PS+ sub to be used (on top of single player games, apps, Blu Ray and DVD playback and many other "basic" functions): Game DVR/Share, Media Apps (Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, Twitch...), Social Media Apps (Facebook...), chat features (including X game group chat), Free to Play online games (DC UO, Warframe, Blacklight Retribution, Planetside 2, War Thunder...) |

What Elandyll posted isn't quite what I had in mind for using ones music for in game soundtracks. What he posted sounds like it runs a music app in the background. That's totally different than in game music. The OG Xbox/360 let you customize a playlist sometimes on a per game basis. I remember NHL doing it one year. The music would only play when it was supposed to in regards to the gameplay. It wasn't simply playing in the background.
I hope they keep the Earth music visualizer from the PS3. Still looks great even today. |

Everything I have read leads me to believe that you can have your own (mp3 I assume?) music library and make custom soundtracks which may or may not be supported on a game by game basis (maybe some devs would rather you do not listen to something else than their own soundtrack?), but probably active by default. Unfortunately, I cannot put my hand on a direct Sony rep quote or presentation slide about this. Last edited by Elandyll; 10-22-2013 at 02:03 AM. |

I'll add a few points
- The PS4 operates between 41 and 95 degrees fahrenheit. The PS3 operated between113 and 131 degrees. - The PS4's bluray drive is 3x faster then the PS3's. This speed comes at the price of sound. Sony confirmed the PS4's bluray drive will be louder then the PS3's. - The USB 3.0 of the PS4 will recharge your Dual Shock 4 controller faster then the PS3's USB 2.0. - The Dual Shock 4's battery is almost 40% larger then the DS3 battery, which should allow for longer play periods without the need for a charge. - The PS4's GPU is rated at 1.84 TFlops. A comparable Radeon HD7850 (1.76 TFlops) for PC will set you back about $180. Benchmarks show such a card running Battlefield 4 at 22fps max on very high settings, 1080p, and 4xmsaa. However, even the $1000 Geforce Titan can only muster 52fps max with the same settings, proving the GPU in the PS4 is cost effective while not sacrificing too much performance. - The simple PS4 architecture can reduce development time of games by as much as 10 months compared to the PS3. - The Dual Shock 4 touchpad can be "clicked" and used as a button. Similar to a laptop touchpad. |

I don't plan on installing games, but I guess there may be some games that really do benefit from that feature and I very well might decide to go down that route.
Also, i'm not sure how the 12.5mm for HDDs will affect me, but judging by the comments here, it seems its probably a positive thing to allow those higher capacity drives that didn't quite fit into PS3 because of 'headroom clearance' |

This is where the HDD goes, under the glossy part of the console, takes around 21 seconds and a screwdriver to replace. ![]() |

Music unlimited is understandable but I'm on Google's music all access, so I hope it's possible to store music on the console for use in games.
Can't believe this doesn't play CD's. I used my ps3 as my primary rip tool. I'll just have to keep using it. |
