Default 'Go Like Hell' - Tom Cruise Reteams With Joseph Koskinski

Quote:
Tom Cruise and Joseph Kosinski Developing ‘Go Like Hell’ as ‘Oblivion’ Follow-Up

We know that Tom Cruise likes to work with the same people multiple times if they get along, and evidently he liked his Oblivion gig with director Joseph Kosinski. The two are going to develop another film together.

In this case the movie is Go Like Hell, set in the ’60s and based on the book Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and their Battle For Speed and Glory at Le Mans by A.J. Baime. The story, as you might surmise from that long subtitle, is about the Le Mans rivalry between Henry Ford II and Enzo Ferrari; if this deal leads to a real film, Cruise would play Ford, who with Lee Iacocca and engineer Carroll Shelby designed a car to challenge Ferrari’s European dominance.

This one has been developed by a couple producers for various directors; Michael Mann was once attached to make the movie. Cruise and Kosinski don’t have deals yet, and we don’t know if any previous script draft might be used, or if they’ll start from scratch.

The Wrap broke news of the deal. Cruise will have the “repeating time” sci-fi film Edge of Tomorrow out in June of next year, and will make a fifth Mission: Impossible film before this one. Kosinski has a number of possible next projects on his plate.

Update: there’s some confusion over the role for Cruise. Borys Kit from THR says,

Quote:
By the way, Cruise would not play Henry Ford II as reported by some but rather Carroll Shelby, the racing icon.

Doesn't sound like a film you'd want Kosinski to direct. You can't transition from Mann to Kosinski easily. This could be interesting.

Here is another movie with Tom Cruise just being Tom Cruise, like in the rest of his big blockbuster, action/adventure films! He doesn't have to have to play a character anymore, all he have to do is to be himself onscreen, and get paid mega-millions... Whenever I watch one of his movies (which I rarely do anymore because of this reason) I don't see the character that he's suppose to be playing, I only see Tom Cruise.

I'll watch just about anything starring Cruise and I'm a fan of Koskinski so I'll definitely watch this film.

Well...I guess that's your problem then. I still think Cruise slips into character, and he's still one of the most talented actors working in the business now. So please quit taking your anti-Cruise sentiment into every thread about one of his films.

I agree with the fact that Tom Cruise looks just like being Tom Cruise in a lot of recent movies, but in his case that's not a bad thing. What it comes down to in a case like that is the actor being able to make the character believable in everything he does. And on that level, Cruise delivers time after time. And yes, he's able to do more than that, we've all seen that. But if the movie is not asking for it ... why would you? Oblivion didn't ask for a Daniel Day Lewis, it asked for someone who would be credible in that part.

I can think of many who wouldn't be able to do that. He's not one of those actors that just are the same in every possible movie, no matter what genre and not able to do something different. So I don't mind. And I'm not even a fan.

Look, DiCaprio is one of my favorite actors of his generation. On some levels he's often just being Leonardo placed in a situation - but he does that with such an intense and often electrifying way I have no problem with that. (Yeah, I know he's able to do some very different things also) In fact, he makes me forget he is not changing his body language or hiding behind a lot of tricks. And still, he's also one of those that deliver time after time.

That definitely sums up his acting in Oblivion.

Not really because Rush was about James Hunt and Niki Lauda going for the drivers championship, it was not about McLaren and Ferrari going for the constructors championship.

It's not my problem that some people can't handle the truth about Tom Cruise. Stop glorifying him, as if he's the greatest actor in the world because he's not. I am not saying that Tom Cruise is a bad actor, but in the majority of his action movies, his acting is one dimensional, and unconvincing. His name and star power, overshadows every movie he stars in!

I had a "meh" reaction to Tron: Legacy, but I love Oblivion.

My enjoyment of Oblivion stems from a variety of factors outside the Koskinski/Cruise pairing, although I enjoyed their work for this film. I mostly appreciated the film for its superb and mostly seamless blending of practical special effects and digital effects, as well as its superb use of the sparse Iceland landscapes. The M83 soundtrack also worked for me. It's just a great film to look at and a great film to listen to, through and through.

I'd have to know more about Go Like Hell before diving in, but it could very well be a good flick.

I think Tom Cruise may be such a good actor that I actually despise him, a little. He's a very sharp/clean guy, so it may just be my smh of his religion that makes me want to fault him. I honestly can't though, he is a really good actor.

I have come close to tricking myself into thinking he can't act because he never really looks like he's acting anymore, but then I realize he only picks films where he'd actually be that character, so back full circle to Scientology. Maybe, idk.

Cruise is my favourite actor so I'l watch anything he's in. He may not be the most talented or chameleon actor out there, but he always delivers an entertaining performance and in turn makes the film entertaining. I feel that is more important then an actor that disappears in a role, but turns out a boring or uninteresting film. He even made the atrocious Tropic Thunder worth a watch thanks to his hilarious performance. Don't know how I feel about another racing movie right now, but again I'll give it a chance, and Koskinski is definitely a great visual Director that could add some excitement to the film. Oblivion is one of my favourite films this year, if not my favourite.
