BEST NEWS EVER! Let's hope they're gonna be working backwards through his back catalogue...this one in particular will look particularly beautiful though I reckon!

Assuming it get's a decent transfer this movie will look great on Blu-ray. The cinematography and bold colours of India will shine in HD. Day 1 for me.

The Criterion version looks good, hope this is as good for people region locked. Still waiting for a release of the Life Aquatic to complete my collection though.

Only £9.99 on pre-order from Sainsbury's. Looking like it won't be a pricy upgrade! Good news for our wallets...though probably means it's bare-bones.

If the release is bare bones (and your currently zone-B locked, like me), then get the Criterion DVD and the UK bluray, pop the bluray into the Criterion case on a swing tray, and make your own dual format.

This way you get all the extras and booklet from the Criterion, and can watch the main feature in HD. (plus any additional extras that the UK bluray may have).

I'm planning on doing this with many of my Criterion DVDs, rather than re-buy them all on bluray. Criterion DVDs are significantly cheaper than their blus (especially pre-owned).

Just realised this is a Fox cheap release...so might be in an Amazon multibuy deal in the new year. Wondering if it's worth pre-ordering then! Been burned recently with things like 12 Angry Men and Raising Arizona.

I can't handle to have another electronic box in my room along with my PS3 and other bits. You can have Criterion but at least release normal Blu versions of the film for the rest of us, I don't even care about extras anymore.

I remember watching this movie long time a go and enjoyed it a lot. Please correct me if I am wrong that it has a very nice background score too. Will add to the collection. Its not pricey as compared to the US Criterion BD.

Well, let's see about the special features on the UK BD.

Criterion Collection (all special features are presented in HD):

Quote:
Commentary - in this audio commentary, recorded in March 2010, director Wes Anderson and co-screenwriters Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman discuss how The Darjeeling Limited evolved from an idea into a film, some of interesting locations seen throughout the film, how certain scenes were shot, the cast they worked with, etc. Generally speaking, this is a rather dry but very informative commentary.

Documentary by Barry Braverman - a standard making of featurette with plenty of raw footage from the shooting of The Darjeeling Limited in India. In English and portions of Hindi, not subtitled. (41 min, 1080p).

Conversation with James Ivory - a lot of the music in The Darjeeling Limited comes from the original scores from the films of Merchant Ivory and Satyajit Ray. Director Wes Anderson and James Ivory met in June 2010 and discussed this special tribute. In English, not subtitled. (21 min, 1080i).

Essay by Matt Zoller Seitz - Mr. Seitz, who reviewed Wes Anderson's Bottle Rocket in the Dallas Observer, deconstructs The Darjeeling Limited. In English, not subtitled. (12 min, 1080p).

American Express commercial - a hilarious spoof with Wes Anderson. In English, not subtitled. (3 min, 1080p).

Sriharsh's audition - raw footage from the audition. In English, not subtitled. (3 min, 1080i).

Oakley Friedberg/Packer speech - In English, not subtitled. (3 min, 1080i).

Deleted scene and two alternate takes - In English, not subtitled. (4 min, 1080p).

-- Playing cricket with a tennis ball.
-- Running down sand dune
-- Attempt to board plane

Sketch by Roman Coppola - a short sequence stirred together from Roman Coppolla's footage shot (mostly in India) during the writing of The Darjeeling Limited and set to the electronic tabla. In English, not subtitled. (3 min, 1080i).

Waris' diary - In English, not subtitled. (1080i).

-- Animals
-- Fitness
-- Life on the rails
-- Special effects
-- My costume
-- Fans
-- Lucky men
-- The scene
-- Food
-- Feelings
-- Polaroids

Trophy case - a quick look at the various awards The Darjeeling Limited has won. (1 min, 1080p).

Stills galleries - a collection of stills from full-time-on-set photographer James Hamilton, Laura Wilson (mother of Owen Wilson) and Sylvia Plachy (mother of Adrien Brody).

Theatrical trailer - the original theatrical trailer for The Darjeeling Limited. In English, not subtitled. (3 min, 1080p).

Booklet - an illustrated booklet containing Richard Brody's essay "Voyage to India" (Mr. Brody is the movies editor for the New Yorker's Goings On About Town and the author of Everything is Cinema: The Working Life of Jean-Luc Godard).

or you could just go region free for something like 60-80 GBP and dont have to buy DVDs + blurays and make up some strange dualformat boxes... ;P

the region free solution is probably less expensiv after only a few movies..and you get bonus features in HD and not SD only..

currently in the criterion sale (if you order a lot movies @ once) and are lucky with customs you pay only around 13 GBP for a criterion bluray. a 10 GBP barebone release + the criterion DVD is probably more expensiv !

"expensive" is spelt with an e on the end. (Although I'm guessing that wasn't intentional).

Criterion releases are RRP'd at $30, which is about £18. Some of the older releases got for $22-25, which is $13.2-15. So you may be able to scrape it with those. So you'd have to get lucky with HMRC.

You have a link where you can buy it for £18 all in?

You're aware that Criterion's Region A release will have no bearing on/influence over when a Region B release materialises?

For the Criterion BD of Darjeeling? Go to BN.com and you'll find it for $19.99 and add $8.49 for standard p&p to the UK. I believe that's around £18
