Default need advice

I'm looking at getting a Blu-ray burner, I'm sure that my computer can play Blu-ray except for 1 thing my video card, it's only a X1950 (256MB) will I need to upgrade this to hand Blu-ray? the rest my system is the Q6600 CPU, P5E motherboard, 2 GB PC2 8500 RAM there's more but that's the relevant stuff... if I need to upgrade the video card let me know what the minimum I'd need so I can go from there and see what card I can get...

Possibly. Supposedly the X1950 does accelerate HD codecs but some people here have found to varying degrees.

I'd try it first but if your CPU max's out get something like an ATI HD3450 (if all your doing is blu-ray) or one of the Nvidia's 8600 or above (if your into gaming as well).

if you use software called anydvd by slyfox in conjunction with play-back software such as power dvd etc it allows you to watch blu-ray films despite having an incompatible graphics card.

yikes! I used a currency converter and that's $126.53 Canadian for any DVD with the HD option, not to mention I'm actually opposed to Slysoft due to thier continued attempts at making piracy easier. it doesn't matter if I'd use that function or not it'd be supporting them and thier goals if I purchased thier software. if I had to I'd rather just by a video card, that said I think HDCP is one of the dumbest idea's I think the only ones that are making any benefit is the video card manufacturers and the monitor/TV manufacturers. my monitor has to be HDCP compliant too right?
