Wow.... eerie "Shining" type of audio through a lot of parts.... and it's filmed with a lot of contrast.... if they do it right, it's gonna make for a VERY NICE Blu..... I will be buying!!!!!

No spoilers in this one, but it's a great movie.

It is an eerie movie, the beginning was very strange, no talking..lots of mood getting setup. DDL was great as always. My wife hated this movie, so she complained the entire time, I thought it was pretty good, but not sure if I could sit through it again, unless I was alone or something...

I thought this movie was terrible. I rented it because someone was saying how great it was on the forums. Lol, oh well.

In keeping with the no spoiler theme I wont say anything specific.

I didn't really think much of this movie. I felt it was well filmed and Daniel Day-Lewis is incredible as usual. However after watching I couldn't really decide what it was all about. There were several themes that it could have focused on but it didn't seem to really delve into any of them.

Maybe I missed the point?

Totally agree!! I watched it & thought the whole time this must get better, everyone loves it!1 & it never did, when it FINALLY!!! ended I was just like WTF are you kidding me everyone hyped this?..I really don't care if anyone disagrees with me that's why everyone has there own opinion but I've seen more entertainment & better movies on made for TV, & thats bad, I'd say it was probably the worst movie ever, that had so much hype & people saying how great it is. It defiantly isn't in the 10 worst movie category (hulk, dark water, Lady in the Water, etc.) But given the supposed greatness that was said about it, I'm just confused at how this happened. I would honestly be depressed if I was forced to ever watch again!

Looks like a lot of us are in the same boat. My son warned me against buying this movie. He said they should call it "There Will be Crap". I rented it and I agree the main problem is it was over hyped because of Daniel Day-Lewis. A decent but not great movie is how I would describe it. Worth a rental, but I'll never buy it. Have no desire to ever watch it again.

wow.... really? I RE-WATCHED it, and plan on telling my father-in-law to Netflix it too.... I wouldn't have re-watched it, and bought it, but it's not on Blu

The sound is amazing, the picture, even for standard Def. is great.... it mixes dark/light scenes very well..... and the story was GREAT!!!!

SPOILER!!! (sorry I couldn't resist)

What the movie, (I feel) is about....

[Show spoiler] It's all about Daniel Day Lewis' character being destroyed by greed.... he was apathetic to the deaths of others... sent his so-called son away because he was threatening the business, and was a burden.... side theme was the preacher who was a nut case, but his character showed he was just greed in disguise..... he assumed "Paul" rather than Eli to bring him to the town, then hid his greed behind religion.... he was greedy for power/following, and needed the oil money for that.

Oh well... not trying to tell people they should like the movie, but I think it's a movie that most people should watch for themselves.

PS I thought Lady in the Water was a pretty good film also.

I thought the plot was okay. Seemed to me that DDL's acting "carried" the movie. If someone else other than DDL was doing the main character, I don't think I would have liked it. He was perfect for this role.

agrees...he totally carried the movie, anyone else....it'd be a tough sell. It's worth viewing just to see his acting.

For me the movie was like a slow boil...it took a while to get going, but I did like the greed struggle between the two main characters. However, that said, I just don't think I could watch this many more times.

Lot's of people said it was really violent etc but I didn't think it was that bad, maybe I'm just jaded by all the other violence I've seen in movies.

I personally liked TWBB very much. While I don't think it deserved an Oscar nomination for the movie itself, DD Lewis was spectacular (as always it seems). What I liked about the movie was that is was unconventional. It seems to me that the director (Anderson) was able to create the movie he wanted versus the movie that fits the studio formula.

At the end of the day, I found it to be one of those movies (ala Citizen Kane) where it looks like the title character has everything, but you soon realize that they are soooo empty inside.

The final scene seemed a little over the top to me, but as I said before, I will always enjoy a movie that appears to be the directors vision versus something contrived by a studio exec trying to appeal to the masses.

This is a love-it ot hate-it type of movie.
