It's amazing that none of Jane Fonda's great performances from the 70's have appeared on BD in the US or the UK yet.
I'm thinking of: They Shoot Horses Don't They? Klute (won best actress Academy Award) Julia Coming Home (won best actress Academy Award) The China Syndrome Comes A Horseman Come on, Warner, Fox, MGM - what are you all waiting for? |

This could be said about a lot of actors/actresses/directors/writers/etc. Probably isn't some bias against Jane Fonda specifically. Unless the ones who decide what films get released are still upset over Hanoi Jane or were injured doing one of her workout tapes.

Jane Fonda was a devout political activist, who've caused many controversies, during the 1970s and 80s era. I don't think her movies have been blacklisted for home video, since they were released on DVD, and VHS.

I've pretty much always enjoyed Fonda in her movie roles, so yeah, bring them on!

It's easy to forget what a great actress she was with such a great body of work... in the 80s she was just the aerobics chick, and the 90s she was just Mrs. Ted Turner. I wouldn't be surprised with Twight Time ended up with some of the Sony/MGM titles.
At least, we have Barbarella for a Jane fix. And what a fix it is! |

I doubt that any studio has anything against her, but a big chunk of potential blu-ray purchasers do. Especially many veterans. The studios may see her as too polarizing to raise enough profit, because that is what will matter to them.

She has several movies that are regarded as classics and have enough fans out there to balance out those who detest her. Hell, she had a pretty sizeable part in The Butler just this past summer and that movie did over $100 million. If they never had a problem releasing her movies on VHS and DVD, why NOW should she be penalized on blu-ray just because of a mistake she made well before home video hit? If anything, I'd liken her to Michael Jackson, who is a controversial figure that many boycott because of what they believe he did to children, but yet also has million of fans out there who love him and miss him, so it really balances out. I am not a fan of Jane Fonda the person because of events that happened more than 40 years ago. That is my opinion... you can agree or disagree with me... However, I can separate the person from the actress. In her films, she is not Jane Fonda.. she is whatever role she is playing. I am a fan of her films. I would purchase all of these movies when they become available on Blu-ray.
On Golden Pond The China Syndrome Coming Home They Shoot Horses Don't They? Cat Ballou Klute Nine to Five Come 'on .. who would not want to own Cat Ballou on Blu-ray? |
