which version to buy, aargh... !! (Assassin's creed 4) - Blu-ray Forum

I don't know which version of Assassin's Creed 4 to buy.
I've NEVER played an AC game, this will be the first, but I've heard a lot of good things about it and I want something different than a shooter for a change.

But which version to buy? I still don't know if I keep my PS3 or buy a PS4, I'll probably keep it for a while and wait till the price drops, but not sure.

PS3 versions of AC4 available:

Standard edition: 50 Euros
The Black Skull edition: 73 Euros
Buccaneer Edition: 77 Euros

Which version would you buy? I am not much of game memorbillia collector, but for 27 Euros, you get a lot more with the Buccaneer edition!

Personally I'd get the Buccaner edition and I will be getting its US equivalent for the PS4. Now for you since you have never played it before I'd suggest just getting the standard edition. This way if you don't like it your not out more then you need to be.

What do you mean? Are you getting the buccaneer edition for the PS3 AND PS4?

Could someone tell me if there's a difference between AC4 for PS3 and PS4?
Is there like a BF4 difference (on PS3 12 vs 12 multiplayer, on PS4 32 vs 32).
Or is it the same ?

I'm getting the US Limited Edition for the PS4. The only difference between the two versions are the graphics are better on the PS4 version.

there is not a physical upgrade from ps3 to ps4, it would be a digital upgrade only. if you wanted the physical disc, i'd wait to get it on ps4. plus i've read online that it's worth the wait and getting on ps4. I'd say wait hands down

how can people know this, it's not even available yet?
i think it's just some rumour spread by people who've pre-ordered the ps4 and are jealous that they can't play it yet...

Are you talking about the upgrade part or the better on PS4 part? The upgrade has been confirmed to be digital only if you buy the physical game this gen you can then download the digital version next-gen for a small fee. If you talking about the better on PS4 part here you go:

There are already review copies out there and most places are saying wait for the PS4 version.

Oh, it's about visuals. Well, i don't really care for that. It's pretty much the same? Some small differences. And if I buy the PS3 physical copy, I can later upgrade to PS4 copy for only $10 or something...

Only thing that holds me off is.. well, still don't know if I should sell my PS3 and pre-order a PS4. I just bought Battlefield 4 (I will send it back, it's still sealed. Heard it isn't that much different from BF3, and I really want to play 32 vs 32, so I'll get it when I have a PS4).

Hmm.. I think I'll order the PS3 buccaneer edition.
It's 77 Euros, if I don't like it, I'll probably be able to sell it for a good/similar price.

Decisions, decisions...

I'm subscribed to the Playstation Blog emails, and it was in one of the emails about a month ago about upgrading from ps3 games to ps4. If you go to http://blog.us.playstation.com/ you will probably be able to find it on there somewhere

I see you're in Europe? I know here in the states the pre-orders have been sold out EVERYWHERE since they first announced everything at E3.

Well not sold out, you can still order, but they can't guarantee that you'll receive it on release date.

So I guess I'll just wait. There will probably be a better PS4 version few months later (and cheaper) anyway, just like with the PS3.

And I'll most likely have to wait.

I pulled the trigger and ordered the Buccaneer edition.
It's just 27 Euros more than the standard edition, and I am sure it will hold its value longer than a standard keepcase release (in case I don't like the game...).

I just ordered the standard edition but the LE & Buccaneer Edition do look mighty fine.

Problem I have with these awesome sets is if I bought one I knew I wouldn't open it. I want to play the game on PS4 for the open world feel & visuals & maybe the tweaked rumble on the DS4.. The lighting effects, details in almost every explorable area including weather are night & day difference. The only shortcoming that doesn't have a massive wow factor is cutscenes. If you had 2 systems running side by side you could immediately tell the difference which system you are playing.

This was the cheapest version (Media Markt, huge electronics/media chain in Germany & The Netherlands). The only other store that carries this edition, asks 120 Euros for the same thing... That's a 43 Euros difference.

IMO, LE are a waste of money. Id just get the regular one. Too bad you are in EU bc these games almost always go on sale for $34.99 at Best Buy on BF

We don't have that here. Amazon sometimes does, but time difference is a big issue

I can order it now (they have fixed the age issue bug), but the price is increased too. The limited edition is 110 Euros now instead of 77 Euros.
($45 increase!!!)

That's 5 Euros cheaper than what the standard edition costs here
