The Fugitive / U.S. Marshals (Fugitive IS remastered!) - Blu-ray Forum

I know a few people had been interested in the recently released double pack of The Fugitive and U.S. Marshals for two reasons: firstly because it's the only way to get U.S. Marshals locally and secondly because it may contain the remastered release of The Fugitive which showed up in the US back in September.

It took a while but Warner Bros. finally got back to me. Unfortunately the double pack still contains the old disc with the average detail, muted colours, combing artefacts and lossy audio. Quite frustrating to know that WB can see fit to release a remastered disc in September in the US but saddle us with the same crap which was released on Blu-ray 7 years ago only a month later. They've done it before with Lethal Weapon and Casablanca and it's the same deal here. Remastered discs released elsewhere but we end up with the crappy old discs despite it being the perfect opportunity for a re-release.

Really not on but I thought people interested would want to know. Guess I'll have to import.

UPDATE: Folks, despite Warner Bros advising me otherwise the double pack DOES include the remastered release of The Fugitive! Great news for long time fans of the film!

Thanks for the info Atex. I was waiting before importing, now I can get The Fugitive and The Right Stuff (with extras dvd), just received the UK James Dean UCE with 3 extras dvds for $31. WB title's in Australia are very reasonably priced but if you want the extras importing is the way to go.

Are you sure about US Marshalls being only available in the double pack? I could have sworn I have seen it at my local Warehouse $10 bins?

Edit - Well, definitley out in atleast New Zealand.

^ It is available individually here, about a year ago I bought it at K-mart as a part of their $8 range, which I was informed about by Beechy (my local K-Mart still has stock of it). Though strangely enough it's never been listed on JB's, Ezydvd's, Big W's or Sanity's websites

Edit: This is why there is no release day listed for it in the database, cause with it not being available on any Australian retailers website, I have no idea what the official release date was

Well apologies there. I've never seen it (not even at K-mart), it's not been listed anywhere for purchase and even Warner Bros web site doesn't mention it.

Ah well, suffice to say we're still lumped with that craptacular Fugitive disc.

I got it at KMart too, $8. Come to think of it, that is the only place I ever saw it. Maybe they got a job lot of stock from somewhere.

So, earlier on I mentioned how Warner Brothers confirmed with me that the remastered The Fugitive disc was not being released in Australia. Here was the confirmation I got (disregard my random adding of the word "this" to my follow up

Well... when Big W has their 25% off coupled with the $10 coupon I decided to buy the double pack. Despite the woeful service I got from Big W with their one day sale I wanted US Marshals and at $6.96 for the double pack delivered I decided I would give it a shot as none of my local stores ever have US Marshals. I figured I could just give away the Fugitive disc when I eventually imported the US one.

So, it turns up today which is hilarious because Big W's service for my $6.96 order (of which $5 was postage

) was fine whereas their service for my $400 worth of orders during the sales was terrible. So kudos to them for doing a good job this time.

I open it up and I see this silver disc. I say "that's the font used for the remastered Fugitive release". My wife looks at me and asks how the hell I know what font is used?

So, I'm kind of optimistic as I recall my old release being a picture disc. I dig it out of my cupboard... it is a picture disc. OK, a bit more optimistic. Into the BD-drive in the computer: BD-50, DTS-HD MA, MPEG-4 AVC. It IS the remastered disc!

So, Warner Bros don't know what they're selling! And for once that's a good thing!

Usually we get done over with misinformation resulting in us missing out on things. Well, here we are getting something and being told the opposite!

So long story short but I got my double pack for $6.96. Go forth and buy up peoples. Even at $13 it's still cheaper for the double pack than importing the remastered Fugitive release from the US.

FREAKING SCORE!!!!!!

Damn, I actually saw that double pack in store today and I seriously said to myself; "Atexp80 said it wasn't the remastered version".

Might have to go back in tomorrow and see if it's still there. I'd have to check the disc before I buy it though.. NZ always gets the short end of the stick.

I doubt it. The plain black text on silver disc is something Warner Bros has been doing lately (The Right Stuff etc) so between that and our ratings logo on the disc it's not some accident. There's definitely been a pressing of the remastered disc for Australia and it looks like it's for this set. It'll just remain to be seen as to whether it gets a single release in the future.

I know a few people had been interested in the recently released double pack of The Fugitive and U.S. Marshals for two reasons: firstly because it's the only way to get U.S. Marshals locally and secondly because it may contain the remastered release of The Fugitive which showed up in the US back in September. It took a while but Warner Bros. finally got back to me. Unfortunately the double pack still contains the old disc with the average detail, muted colours, combing artefacts and lossy audio. Quite frustrating to know that WB can see fit to release a remastered disc in September in the US but saddle us with the same crap which was released on Blu-ray *7 years ago* only a month later. They've done it before with Lethal Weapon and Casablanca and it's the same deal here. Remastered discs released elsewhere but we end up with the crappy old discs despite it being the perfect opportunity for a re-release. Really not on but I thought people interested would want to know. Guess I'll have to import. UPDATE: Folks, despite Warner Bros advising me otherwise the double pack DOES include the remastered release of The Fugitive! Great news for long time fans of the film! I was waiting before importing, now I can get The Fugitive and The Right Stuff (with extras dvd), just received the UK James Dean UCE with 3 extras dvds for $31. WB title's in Australia are very reasonably priced but if you want the extras importing is the way to go.

I could have sworn I have seen it at my local Warehouse $10 bins? Edit - Well, definitley out in atleast New Zealand.

Here was the confirmation I got (disregard my random adding of the word "this" to my follow up ): Well... when Big W has their 25% off coupled with the $10 coupon I decided to buy the double pack. Despite the woeful service I got from Big W with their one day sale I wanted US Marshals and at $6.96 for the double pack delivered I decided I would give it a shot as none of my local stores ever have US Marshals. I figured I could just give away the Fugitive disc when I eventually imported the US one. So, it turns up today which is hilarious because Big W's service for my $6.96 order (of which $5 was postage ) was fine whereas their service for my $400 worth of orders during the sales was terrible. So kudos to them for doing a good job this time. I open it up and I see this silver disc. I say "that's the font used for the remastered Fugitive release". My wife looks at me and asks how the hell I know what font is used? So, I'm kind of optimistic as I recall my old release being a picture disc. I dig it out of my cupboard... it is a picture disc. OK, a bit more optimistic. Into the BD-drive in the computer: BD-50, DTS-HD MA, MPEG-4 AVC. It IS the remastered disc! Old disc on left, remastered on right. So, Warner Bros don't know what they're selling! And for once that's a good thing! Usually we get done over with misinformation resulting in us missing out on things. Well, here we are getting something and being told the opposite! So long story short but I got my double pack for $6.96. Go forth and buy up peoples. Even at $13 it's still cheaper for the double pack than importing the remastered Fugitive release from the US. FREAKING SCORE!!!!!!

Might have to go back in tomorrow and see if it's still there. I'd have to check the disc before I buy it though.. NZ always gets the short end of the stick.
