Following up on the recent 5 x 5 Directors thread:
5 x 5: Five Favorite Films by Your Five Favorite Directors ...here's a thread to highlight your favorite films and performances from some of your favorite actresses. Off the top of the dome: Isabelle Adjani: 1)Possession 2)Nosferatu 3)The Driver 4)The Tenant 5)One Deadly Summer Catherine Deneuve: 1)Repulsion 2)Belle de Jour 3)Umbrellas of Cherbourg 4)Dancer in the Dark 5)Pola X Claudette Colbert: 1)Palm Beach Story 2)Midnight 3)Bluebeard's Eighth Wife 4)It Happened One Night 5)It's a Wonderful World Isabelle Huppert: 1)The Piano Teacher 2)Coup de Torchon 3)Going Places 4)La Ceremonie 5)White Material ...and I surprised myself with this choice, but had to admit that there probably isn't a young actress working today who's been in more interesting projects with a more interesting array of directors: Chloë Sevigny: 1)Zodiac 2)Brown Bunny 3)American Psycho 4)Trees Lounge 5)Gummo Hanna Schygulla and Anna Karina are also among my tops, but I excluded them in favor of others, as each of them would've resulted in lists dominated by specific directors (Fassbinder and Godard, respectively). |

This reveals a fundamental flaw in my so-called love of film. I thought of a bunch of actresses, but could only honestly list five favorite films for three of them. I couldn't find a complete five that are genuinely "favorites" for any of the others.

So the two Hepburns and Blanchett are easily my top three favorites. I'm a big fan of Foster and Zeta-Jones as well, but they could potentially be replaced by others such as Meryl Streep or Bette Davis, or another once I've had a chance to see more of their films.
Katharine Hepburn The African Queen The Philadelphia Story The Lion in Winter On Golden Pond Guess Who's Coming to Dinner Audrey Hepburn Sabrina Breakfast at Tiffany' s Charade Roman Holiday Two for the Road Cate Blanchett Elizabeth The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Aviator Elizabeth: The Golden Age Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Jodie Foster Silence of the Lambs Contact Panic Room Taxi Driver Anna & the King Catherine Zeta-Jones The Mask of Zorro Entrapment Traffic Chicago Ocean's Twelve |

I'll take Funny Face over My Fair Lady any day. Audrey Hepburn having her singing voice dubbed in MFL just kills the experience and performance for me.
Wouldn't call it a bad film though but definitely nowhere near my top 5 Hepburn films. |
