After viewing the Little Mermaid for the first time last night, i was sad to see the original Walt Disney Pictures intro gone. I've included a video for anybody who doesn't know what i'm referring to.
It seems like this intro is always being replaced as of late. Anybody else annoyed by this or have any idea behind Disney's reasoning? |

Agreed. I hate when studios replace the original logos with whatever they're using now. What's the point anyways? In 5 years when I pull out the blu-ray again they will have moved onto a newer logo again anyways, so the blu-ray will have an older logo no matter what. It might as well just be the original that accompanied the film when it was first released.

Ever since, Dead Man's Chest introduced us to the new logo -- I've prefered it to the blue logo. It never really bother me.
![]() Howevee, I'm pretty sure they didn't pull a switch-a-roo on Lady and the Tramp. So, for those of which who miss it -- there you will find it. ^,..,^ |

I believe most of the movies still have the original logos on BD.
Don't quote me on this, but I think all of the movies that have gotten 3D re-releases (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Finding Nemo, Toy Story, etc.) have had their logos replaced with the new fancy one. (Well, in the case of Nightmare, it also has to do with the re-branding of the film from Touchstone to Disney.) Mostly everything else retains their old logos from what I've seen. There might be some other exceptions as well, but the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Bambi. It also has the new castle logo instead of the RKO logo, though it doesn't go through the whole "When You Wish Upon A Star" sequence. However, somebody on these forums told me that this is because the logo has been lost for quite some time now. |

Especially when it involves re-editing or cutting of music (like in Toy Story, where the opening fanfare has gone!) |

Are opening credits part of the actual film? Closing credits? Is the opening Fox fanfare part of a Star Wars film? A lot of people would say yes. |

If they (or any studio) wants to put a new opening logo before the original logo, that's okay with me. Especially for studios that have been sold, I can understand how they don't want the name of some corporation that doesn't own them anymore at the beginning.
But they should absolutely always keep the original logo at the head of the film. The original logo not only maintains the corporate history of the studio, it also tells us about the cultural aesthetic at the time the movie was originally released. Drives me nuts when they change it. |

Even if it affects the first 2 or 3 seconds of musical intro to the film, it still doesn't matter to me. In fact, the new castle with HD surround fireworks and HD Disney fanfare is a pretty stellar experience. ![]() |

I like how some of the classic animated features still have the RKO Pictures intro, or how some stuff from the 20's, 30's, 40's, etc have the "this feature has passed the xyz board of censorship". (I've noticed that on a bunch of British films, specifically). It's a part of the films history. Whenever possible, they should try and preserve that along with the movie. I'm sure I don't even notice it half the time for more subtle differences, but when I see the old intro on a classic it usually stands out and shows that they cared a little bit extra. |
