Default The Cell @Pathmart

I found this movie jus walkin' around lookin' for apple pie Lol at Pathmart supermarket. they had this rack wit blu's that I NEVER really look at but something said jus look at them. and low and behold I saw The Cell the front is in English but the back is in French. the movie is in English 5.1 DTS-MA so I will look at it tomorrow gotta go to work bummer. they had 4 more copies.

I asked the customer service rep how did they get these she said, they are gettin' a lot of movies from overseas. she thinks they are just dumpin' them in U.S. they did hav movies from different countries that I hav never seen before.

oh, yeah it was $6.99 I am shocked to find this movie can't wait to watch it..

I am very confused. Why is there now a USA version available however still has no release date??? If you click on amazon it brings you there to add to cart. I have been waiting for the US version announcement which never came.....but now looks to be available? I am not comfortable buying it as I thought only the Canada version was released. HELP !!! This is one of my favorite movies and I want it in blu soooo bad !!!

I picked up Hannibal Rising at Vintage Stock. It is a Canadian release and hasn't been released in the US. I get Canadian versions of films at Vintage Stock all of the time. I like them because the covers are 2 sided, English on one side and French on the other.

Canadian discs make it into some US stores. Meijers in Michigan usually has a few rows of stuff from up North in their $9.99 section. The price tags on em say "Dynamic Disc Distribution (or Distributor)" and are placed over the UPC codes so they all ring up as the same thing. The weirdest part is US discs get mixed in with em. I've seen a few Anchor Bay titles like Halloween (old BD), Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead right next to From Dusk Till Dawn from Alliance. I think it's fun when this happens, cuz there's that chance of seeing something you haven't seen before. I haven't seen either title mentioned yet in this thread in a store. Is Hannibal Rising really cropped (or opened) to 1.78? Bummer, I wouldn't mind grabbing that one but that's 2 strikes (rated version the other).

There isn't a "USA version." Notice (La Cellule) printed in tiny white font under The Cell, and "Alliance" printed on the bottom right of the case. It's the Canadian Blu-ray; the only North America Blu-ray there is.

Also from Amazon:

Last year, I picked up Hellraiser for $10 and it was the Anchor Bay version, which has a much better transfer than what is being offered now...This past summer, I picked up the Canadian pressing of The Running Man for $10...both of these purchased at Pathmark in Centereach and Patchogue NY stores...always keep an eye on the media section at local supermarkets, sometimes, you will get lucky as I have...

I picked up Dawn of the Dead recently, finally giving up the wish for all cuts in HD, and had to have at least one. I picked up My Bloody Valentine (original) not too long ago (Canadian version, but only Maple logos for Lionsgate are different). They still have about 5 copies of Running Man (Maple) at the nearest Meijers now. Sad thing is, this rack hasn't been updated or refilled since I grabbed Dogma in March this year.
There are 2 other Meijers are in town or close enough to count as in. One has some Canadian BD's (and hasn't got new stuff for at least as long as the other), the other store doesn't even have that section in their movie department. The one that doesn't have em also has a movie department less than 1/3 the size of the other 2.

Thanks - I am going by blu ray.com. It now shows US version with US "flag". Although it has no release date - it does link to Amazon for purchase. This is NEW. I have only seen Canadian version on the site before. Trust me - I keep watching for this movie. Got me excited seeing US. Its cool - I appreciate your info. Should I just get this version? It will still play - right?

It'll play on any region a player and is in the correct ratio. A US release could happen and will probably have at least the dvd features if it does, and most US releases have better quality. It comes down to are you sick of waiting? No telling when or if that US version could happen.

That US listing here is a wishful thinking placeholder, made slightly more confusing by posting the art from the Canadian disc there along with links to it. If you've been watching and waiting, the Canadian disc is probably a good bet for you. At the worst it'll be cheap holdover disc.

Are we talking about The Cell with Jennifer Lopez? If so, I was convinced that it was released in the US and I simply missed it.... No wonder I couldn't find it anywhere other than online.
