"Some suggested the lack of music playback features was part of a ruse at Sony to drive subscriptions of its cloud music service, Music Unlimited, but Yoshida insisted this "it's not like that."
"Meanwhile, Sony has confirmed that PS4 users can overlay music on top of in-game audio using Music Unlimited." O RLY? ![]() |

Digital Living Network Alliance Server
It is basically a media server that other devices can connect to. This allows it to stream video, audio, images etc to the device. Windows can operate as a DLNA server with shared folders that can be picked up on the network. I think OSX can too but I don't use it. I personally bought a specific device to act as my DLNA server similar to this. It is the size of an external harddrive case and runs a custom OS and can be connected to my network. It is low power so can always be on, is running raid 0+1 so data is mirrored and I can access my media from anywhere. The best thing is if you have a device that can act as a DLNA client and it is on the same network as a DLNA server, it just automatically connects and you can instantly browse the shared folders and play content. The PS3 is such a device along with pretty much every electronic device that can connect to a network. It is a trivial application to support these days. |

Not having mp3 or CD support is a huge deal to me. It wasn't going to stop me from buying the PS4, but it's definitely a huge bummer. Glad to hear they will be patching that functionality in at some point, but like someone else said, I won't be happy if we can't copy the CD or mp3's to the music folder on the system.

The Microsoft XBOX One supports audio CD’s. The original 2006 model Sony PS3 supported both SACD’s and CD’s until Sony dropped SACD support from the new model PS3's. I was disappointed to learn that the Sony Playstation 4 only supports CD-ROM data discs and no support for standard audio CD’s.
It would be ideal if a firmware update or software application could be purchased that would allow PS4 owners to play standard audio CD’s. |
