Default Question For Collectors

Here's a question... say if you buy a Blu and as it sits on your shelf over time it develops imperfections, do you go out and re-buy the film for a 'pristine' looking copy, or do you just not care after awhile?

I change the case for a new one, got plenty of spares. Sometimes I buy the same movie again if I'm missing the cover art.

What kind of imperfection would it develop? I have DVDs from a decade ago that are still mint, and I haven't babied them.

I usually buy a case of each movie, that way I have a couple dozen copies of each movie and can just open a brand new one each time I want to watch! You can either sell or throw away the already opened ones

You should buy two cases and keep the second case at a friend or relative's house. That way, if your house burns down, you'll still have a dozen or so sealed copies.

You're talking about the case? I have a bunch of extra cases, if anything ruins my current case, I just switch it out and throw away the damaged one.

I have at least 10 extras of every type of case I need. 1-2-3-4-5 disc holders, it doesn't matter.

Depends, usually no. I have only done it for slipcovers that I really want. I can probably reprint cover art though - slipcovers I can't.

No I am mainly referring to cover art and slip covers, I know cases can be changed out. I receive some Blu's from Amazon and BBY that have creased cover art (on the spine most of the time when it happens) or it has a slit in it or whatever but I usually just keep it.

Anyone who would do that is exactly the kind of OCD freak that I wouldn't want to know.

I've never seen this happen, I have DVDs that date back to the time they came out that have held their own.

Is that what one would call a "re-dip", let's say. The only imperfection that i really came across was the case on my Bladerunner 5-disc was actually developing wrinkles, or folds what have you. And they were quite noticeable. I really didn't care for buying another one even before any announcement of the new digibook. And when the digibook did come out I just chose to get it. I still kept the 5-disc and kept the digibook sealed. If I any other titles of mine develop any imperfections, I'd probably not worry much over it.

Most excellent notion

I'm thinking I should probably get 500 copies of each movie and spread 10 each out to 50 people just in case 49 of their houses burn down there will still be backups

Any volunteers*?

[Show spoiler]* All very kidding; if anyone pms me for hundreds of free movies I will not reply

While I used to, I no longer buy into the whole collectible packaging thing or collecting movies. Essentially, there's no appreciation of value on home video collections. You could have bought every DVD known to man and I would bet only a handful are actually worth more than what you purchased them for. If I get a digibook in the mail that's a little banged up, no biggie. It won't be worth anything in a few years anyway!

i always make sure the cover art is under the clear plastic layer of the case and no edges are sticking out. no way the cover art will ever get damaged that way if it's just sitting on the shelf.
