Quote:
In 1940, Alfred Hitchcock made his official transition from the British film industry to Hollywood. And it was quite a year: his first two American movies, Rebecca and Foreign Correspondent, were both nominated for the best picture Oscar. Though Rebecca prevailed, Foreign Correspondent is the more quintessential Hitch film. A full-throttle espionage thriller, starring Joel McCrea as a green Yank reporter sent to Europe to get the scoop on the imminent war, it’s wall-to-wall witty repartee, head-spinning plot twists, and brilliantly mounted suspense set pieces, including an ocean plane crash climax with astonishing special effects. Foreign Correspondent deserves to be mentioned alongside The 39 Steps and North by Northwest as one of the master’s greatest adventures.

I like most of Hitchcock's other films from the 40s better, but this one has some classic set-pieces, including the umbrella assassination, the windmills, the plane crash, etc. If only Henry Fonda and Barbara Stanwyck had been in it (as Hitch hoped) instead! Still, it's worth buying.

I'll say DAY 1 but I'll probably buy it in July

This is great news though. I've never been a huge fan of earlier Hitchcock but I've been warming up to it a lot more lately and I've always had a soft spot for Foreign Correspondent.

Is this the first Hitchcock they've released without a commentary? I think it is. With all the other features, I don't think it needed one though. Never seen this one oddly enough, so looking forward to it.

Ha, I knew the cover art would be some variation on that iconic sequence! The film is didactic and very much of its time, but still tremendously enjoyable.

Finally! So excited to see this and Tess, two discs we knew were in the pipeline for ages

I just wish they'd been able to license the short Laurent Bouzeraeu doc that was on the Warner DVD, now I'll have to hang onto that disc as well.

It doesn't really sound like 3 discs of content. It sounds more like movie+supplements on one BD and movie and the same supplements each on a separate DVD.

Which is fine, of course. I'm just saying.

One or possibly both DVDs will just be redundant duplication of the BD content.

What is a "New 2K digital restoration?" Is it a digital restoration of a scan made for DVD or is it a restoration of a new scan?

I cannot wait. I own all of the Region A Hitchcock Blu-ray titles, and this one will fit right in like a glove. Here's to my favorite director of all time.
