Note: A full special edition treatment of this film will follow at a later date.

Blue is the Warmest Color Blu-ray

Quote:

New high-definition digital transfer, approved by director Abdellatif Kechiche, with 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray edition
Trailer and TV spot
New English subtitle translation
PLUS: A booklet featuring an essay by critic B. Ruby Rich

A full special edition treatment of this film will follow at a later date.
Quote:
The colorful, electrifying romance that took the Cannes Film Festival by storm courageously dives into a young woman’s experiences of first love and sexual awakening. Blue Is the Warmest Color stars the remarkable newcomer Adèle Excharpoulos as a high schooler who, much to her own surprise, plunges into a thrilling relationship with a female twentysomething art student, played by Léa Seydoux. Directed by Abdellatif Kechiche, this finely detailed, intimate epic sensitively renders the erotic abandon of youth. It has captivated international audiences and been widely embraced as a defining love story for the new century.

I absolutely love this movie, but I think I'll wait for the special edition version. The director has a lot of extra footage he wanted to include to the theatrical cut. Perhaps, we will see a much longer version of the film for the special edition.

It would be nice if they could give us some idea of when...I don't know if I should wait or not.

Something I've never notice before:
Quote:
New English subtitle translation
Is that pretty normal? Will a new translation affect the film much?

It helps with it making more sense. They've done it in the past.

If this doesn't show in Victoria I am blind buying this. Blind buying Criterion.

Sometimes it can help. For example, the first Russian BD release of Andrey Rublev omitted many throwaway lines etc. from the subtitles, which I found a little irritating. The new English translation that was in Criterion's release of The Devil's Backbone (translated by Guillermo del Toro himself) is also vastly superior to the English release's notorious one.

I will probably rent it when it comes out and then buy the full blown Criterion Edition down the road, in less this comes on a ridiculous sale.

I'll likely rent it when it comes out (I don't see it playing where I live anytime soon), and if I enjoy it, I'll wait for the Special Edition.

So conflicted... This is the best film of the year, and I want to see it again ASAP. Might have to buy both versions and keep eating ramen for dinner for another month.

I think that A.Kechiche have thinking about doing a re-cut (extended cut of this movie), he talked a lot about this in various interviews (Positif, Téléram...), but due to his bitterness with the movie now.. perhaps a new cut is not really for today...
Hence the fact that Criterion put out the "theatrical cut" now; and later a more standard-Criterion release with bonus and - I hope - an alternate cut.

But I wouldn't want a release without the theatrical cut I've seen in France (after all they got the Palme d'Or with this cut at Cannes)
Had Criterion waited for an alternate cut, the release date would have been for the Summer whereas in other countries (France, UK...) the release date is February, March....
In the end Criterion will release it first in the US.
I mean, I don't know if in terms of contract/deal with IFC Criterion could "hold" the release until several months...
and or skipped the theatrical version (which would have been released by another editor) and release a few months later a Criterion-standard version with the theatrical cut/extended cut...bonus etc...

by the way, I'm talking about an alternate cut, but I have the feeling that despite the interview, in the end, Kechiche won't recut his movie.
His movie is just fine like this.

And by the way, "L'Esquive" should be on Criterion !
