Adam Sandler should star. After all, he starred in that other Capra remake that we won't speak of.

I know why: because doing something original would require you to actually have to use your brains for once.

NEWSFLASH: We're all getting fed up of this sequel, reboot, re-hash garbage.
When they so something original it usually turns up like Cloud Atlas and no one sees it.

Are we?

On the first page of your collection alone you've got four Alien movies and both Alien v Predator, three Austin Powers, three American Pie, three Back to the Future, three Batmans, two Alvin and the Chipmunks, two Alice in Wonderland, Man of Steel and The Amazing Spiderman.

And that's just on the first page.

This is disgusting. Let's just remake, sequel, prequel and butcher every classic we can. Open the archives, there's money to be made!!!

'In the fields of philosophy and æsthetics, the term philistinism describes "the manners, habits, and character, or mode of thinking of a philistine"; the social attitude of anti-intellectualism that undervalues and despises art, beauty, spirituality, and intellect. The philistine is the man or woman who is smugly narrow of mind and of conventional morality whose materialistic views and tastes indicate a lack of and an indifference towards cultural and æsthetic values." -Webster's New World Dictionary.

"The denotations and connotations of philistinism and philistine have evolved to consistently describe the uncouth person who is hostile to art, culture, and the life of the mind, who, in their stead, prefers the life of economic materialism and conspicuous consumption as the paramount human activities." -Wikipedia entry on Philistinism.

Disney will eventually remake Wizard of Oz. It's obvious. They just did a prequel and are continuing the series. They don't own the rights to the original film and they can't directly reference things exclusive to that version so they will do their own 're-adaptation' down the road.

The Wizard of Oz is owned by Warner right now, I believe.

Also many of us don't buy movies just for the slipcovers.

There's still a chance that it'll be, you know, good. If it's a failure, it won't taint your impression of the original.

It's just a lazy attempt to ride the coattails of the original. I know you may not like it, but it's considered a classic by quite more than just a few people. It's one of those things that just doesn't need to happen. No one here is saying flat out that it won't be good, but we're not necessarily looking forward to it either. It honestly just sounds like a remake without being a remake.

Hell, for all we know it'll go through the same thing the original did: Bad reviews upon release, box office failure, only to grow into a classic over the years. There's that chance. The movie could even end up being good. But right now, it just seems like a stupid, lazy, and greedy decision by those involved.

Second of all, see the first one.

Would you like to know what the third one is?

I grew up in the 80s. It was essentially the "sequel decade". I don't have any qualms with sequels, per say. But it's the useless sequels and/or reboots of the classics that irk me. None of the titles that you self-proclaimed to point out fall in that category.

For a future reference, please try to keep in mind that not everyone here is a single, man-child that buys movies for the sake of buying them. Some of us are married and have families with interests in movies also.
lol

Already been debunked, apparently the rights issues are in a real bind.

I did like the modern remake for Miracle on 34th Street. But this idea of a sequel feels like a cheap attempt to cash-in on the name recognition of the original.

Because that's what it is, hence all the angst.
By the way, nice to see you Clark. I missed you in Man of Steel.
