Hi everyone .. So I've decided on a 2-projector setup for my new Home Theater room in the basement of my new house ..
The two projectors are JVC RS-46 (for 2D Movies & TV Shows) and Optoma HD131Xe (for 3D Movies & Gaming) ... Projection Constraints: Screen: 120" diagonal, 16:9 Ratio Projectors' Throw Distance: Somewhere between 16 feet & 18 feet most probably Points to consider: 1) 80% ~ 90% of all my content will be 2D movies & TV shows ( = JVC RS-46 Projector), so the screen has to favor the RS-46 a lot here, since 80% ~ 90% of the times, that's the projector I'll be using. 2) Although numerous people have said that a JVC RS-46 will produce a sufficiently bright 2D picture at my used throw distance, I think it's still fairly recommended to still improve the brightness of RS-46's output, if an even better experience is desired. 3) Do note though, that my second projector already outputs a very bright picture by default, so it's preferable to probably use a screen which will also work well with an already bright input. This might not be a very big issue though, since half the usage for the Optoma projector will be for 3D. Projector Placement options: I can use either of the two layouts used below. First option is preferred, but my priority is picture quality here above all. Ceiling Mounted: In both pictures below, the throw distance depicted is 16.5 feet. ![]() Floor Standing (inside a back concieled shelf): ![]() --------- So please recommend me a screen which will work well for my setup ![]() |

It's hard to say given user preference and what not. Two screens that I've seen in person and were extremely happy with are Carada & Seymour AV the Seymour was with their Center Stage XD (1.2gain)acoustically transparent screen material which was great I was very impressed by it. It was used with a Panasonic PT-AE8000U projector and looked great couldn't tell the screen had "holes" in it.
The Carada is what I have in my home it's a 2.35:1 Criterion Series with a brilliant white 1.4 gain screen material. This is used with a Panasonic PT-AE4000U & I love it. I talked extensively with Carada about the projection setup I had at the time and what I didn't like about it and told him the projector I was planning on using etc. though our correspondence I decided on the brilliant white I was slightly worried that it would be too bright or not to my liking but I couldn't be happier with the results. My old (1st) set up (2006) had what would be considered low contrast projector & I had a 1.0 gain screen I always thought the image was a little dull looking not unwatchable at the time though it probably would be to me now. Projectors started making leaps & bounds right after I had bought my first one. I have to ask why not just use the JVC all the time? I looked it up and its a 3D projector? For what its worth I've always gamed on my projectors I've never had any issues as a result other than the increase in hour usage. If it were my own money I'd go with just the JVC and a 1.2-1.4 gain screen then if I really felt it necessary I'd add the other projector but I doubt you'll actually feel it's necessary. As far as placement goes as long as you've done the math and have the throw in an acceptable range I'd go ceiling mount looks cooler and isn't in the way. As long as you stay away from the extremes on the lens shift you shouldn't notice an affect on picture quality. |

Here are some links to the screen manufacturers I mentioned:
http://www.seymourav.com/default.asp http://www.carada.com/ I would contact various screen manufacturers most will provide screen material samples for free though they tend to be small some will let you order bigger samples for a fee usually $20-40 or so. |
