Default Why would anyone buy a regular BD player?

The PS3 is clearly the best BD player, and it's also the lowest price. (Oh, and I think it also plays video games or something )

So, why do people buy regular BD players?

I have both and I use my regular BD player more,
(1) Its quieter, I have a 60GB PS3
(2) I doesn't use Bluetooth so I only need my 890 remote.
(3) If fits better in my AV cabinet.
All in all the ps3 is a sub par blu-ray player.

Because as soon as a quality manufacturer like Marantz puts out a Blu-Player for less than $1,000 It's going to blow away the PS3, and I'll be trading in my two-PS3's for one......

maybe they dont have the space for the ps3. or maybe they dont know what a ps3 is or dont touch games at all. or they just dumb in the head and buy the more expensive players..

PS3 isn't the best player though..... Some people are willing to pay more for better players, it doesn't make them stupid.

It'll look a heck of a lot better (on the rack that is) than my PS3's do too, but that's the least of my concerns

Default Because...

I'm not a gamer, and I really do like my Sony just fine. I respect those who use PS3s, but it would only be used for movies in my case.

I'll soon buy a second generation player...not sure which one. Would love to have the Denon but not quite decided yet.

Although I'm not completely satisfied with the s300/301 it satisfies the immediate need. I'll never play a single game. I have absolutely no desire for a PS3.

btw -- I paid $270 brand new at Sam's for my s300.

i actually was going to buy a ps3 but instead decided to get the sony bd because it WAS cheaper than the ps3 and figured that eventually it would just sit like my other systems...plus the psp costs so much more depending on which one you buy and i didnt plan on buying the 40 gig (which would be about the same price as the bdplayer from what i have found, both about around 400 depending where you go). I would have bought the 60 or 80gig ps3 anyway which cost much more, why buy the 40gig??? Either way i got the sony for a good price i think which was about 350 with tax and whatnot!! so i think i actually saved!! And i dont think im dumb in the head for doing it.

I think the whole thing is preference. Not all people who want bluray want to play games. Not all people are male boys that like to sit there hours on end playing a game! (dont get me wrong its not a bad thing, just not something i personally do, i like games but have too much to do my friend!)

anyway.....just another example of why PEOPLE buy regular bdplayers!!!

thank ya very much ;o)

I'll add:

(4) No multi-channel analog-out on the PS3. For those out there who aren't ready to upgrade their A/V gear to HDMI for whatever reason but have multi-channel analog-in on their AVR, this a simple solution to get the HD Audio codecs. A BD player that decodes the codecs is required, of course.

yea, i know that but im saying. some people just buy a stand alone player because they could care less for a ps3. only thing that sucks is for all the old stand alone players that cant be updated..

which was the main reason I got the PS3s..... Since sony seems right on top of the whole downloadable upgrades, I figure for my first two players, the PS3 is the way to go in case some new "upgrade" comes out.

I have one game, and 2-PS3s, so games aren't really my thing!

Lack of front display, IR remote, perhaps the fan noise and overall esthetics could be major negatives for PS3. However, IMO, it will be hard to design a consumer blu-ray player to beat the blu-ray PQ of PS3 because it is already doing an outstanding job.

I bet the Marantz's PQ will kill the PS3, but I'll have to wait to see..... (then I need a new T.V. )
