I appreciate your deference to the superior Waxman score, but it would be interesting to have and see the UK version with the additional scenes. To my knowledge it's not been released on DVD. The BFI DVD appears to have the US cut as well. Amazon.de gives the running time as 101min for the BD which would conform to the longer UK cut, however the back cover appears to indicate a runtime of ~92min which would be a little shorter than the US cut. Do you have any other info that confirms this as the UK cut? I would like to see it just for comparison sake, but my suspicion is that this is the US cut with Waxman score we all know and love.

My hope is that Criterion will revisit this film with a BD release or we could get a Eureka MOC BD release with at least both the US and UK cuts. There is also a longer third cut known to exist that combines elements of the two and is believed to be a rough pre-release version. It is supposed to feature a longer wrestling scene between Gregorious and The Strangler. I'd happily pony up money to see that. The MOC Touch of Evil BD had three different cuts, and IMO, Night an the City is no less important although probably not as well known. My fear is that as soon as I pony up the money for the German BD, a superior edition will be announced.

WHAT A SPECTACULAR TRANSFER!
The shots in this film took my breath away. Brilliant staging and lighting. I'm generally not a Richard Widmark fan, but he was absolutely perfect in this part. Great characters. But OH the look of this film is staggeringly good. |
