Default Country Club Members?

I am considering joining a local golf country club, and have requested some information on benefits and cost. What did you pay for your initiation fee, and what do you pay annually? Are there other costs paid on a normal basis?

Thanks.

Ben

I'd rather not share the costs, but I'll let you know this.... Be Careful, because the club I belong to REQUIRES me to spend $150/mo in the pro-shop, or restaurant, but that can include guests' green-fees, etc.... but living in Cleveland, it's tough to spend $150 in November, December, January, etc..... get my drift??? You can't carry it over either, I have to spend $150/mo and if I don't, they just charge me the difference (so If I don't buy ANYTHING from them in December, I get charged $150..... and after December it's too late to say "oh, give me some golf-balls" etc. )

The one here in VA is the same way. We have winter and they require a 150.00 a month spending per month as well. Its a use it or lose, but you still pay. And the membership isnt cheap either.

Back when I graduated HS I had a landscaping business and had a few customers who were country club members. I was always getting taken out to lunch, and given gifts(shirts, jackets and such). I just thought I was doing a good job.

I live in northern VA, my dad spends about 700 dollars a month for the membership. i know it is too much, but he could afford it. However, which golf course in VA charges 150 dollars for the membership?.

the amount of money they charge is ridiculous. I am going to ask my dad, how much he spends on a monthly basis and let you know for sure.

this is unbelievable. I talked to old man about hour ago. he said that he spends 700 dollars a month for membership. so he confirmed it that it cost this much for the club he belongs to. I am having a hard time to believe it though. according to you guys on average it is at least 100 dollars.

My buddy lives in Toledo and belongs to Inverness..... membership is only $350 a month or so, but the annual fees are $10,000 on top of it. It's a nice course though, but it's too far away from me (Cleveland) to be able to play there often.

My goodness... Paying $45-$50 for the occassional round of golf doesn't sound so bad anymore.

The club I'm looking into has initiation fees of around $20k, and annual dues around $5k. I'm awaiting the actual membership info via snail-mail. After much consideration, I think I enjoy playing a variety of golf courses at this time, and playing just one course might get quite bland. Maybe when I'm older or retired a country club will look more attractive.

I don't know.... I live close enough to play Firestone quite often, and If I could afford to be a member there, I think I'd be content playing just there!

Well, in the SE Wisconsin area, we have an abundance of high caliber courses.
The following are within a reasonable drive:
http://www.destinationkohler.com/golf/ws/ws_index.html
http://www.golfthebull.com/
http://www.fireridgegc.com/
http://www.genevanationalresort.com/
http://www.erinhills.com/
http://www.browndeergolfclub.org/
http://www.lawsonia.com/

And those are just a few examples.
