It's annoying and I just got 2 BD's that have issues with it today. I received my BF shipment from BBY 4 out of the 10 were damaged so I went to the store for an exchange, they only had 3/4 and Mad Men season 4 isn't available in store anymore and it's price went from $9.99 to $25.99 so the refund would have been for $10 (and that doesn't help especially since I want the item) anyways I noticed once I got home on 2 of the items I exchanged (The Expendables and The Town) there is a dent in the cover art for Expendables and a tear on the back of The Town, this is beyond annoying and it bothers me to no end, anyone else have any BD's like that?

If they didn't use those cheap Eco cases it wouldn't be as big of a problem! I can't stand those damn things. I've ordered so many viva elite replacement cases it's unreal.

My Revolution Season 1 showed up from amazon today with 1 slightly dented corner... would prefer it wasn't there but I'll deal (it even shipped in a box, amazingly).
Opened a ton of movies I had backlogged recently and had maybe 10 broken cases (either chips/cracks/broken pieces). 1 disc cases I can replace easily enough, anything multidisc I end up exchanging. Slipcovers through the mail/UPS can be aggravating since you can't pick out a nice crispy one yourself. I do try to limit my amazon exchanges to the most terrible violations though, just in case. Ripped cover art is a definite exchange (seriously, I've had a couple arrive with rips, so it had to happen at the factory before the movie was sealed up). I try to get anything with a slipcover at a store so I can select the item myself, and that can still be challenging to get a mint item. Some movies aren't available in store so you have to roll the dice. In general it seems like Time + Money = Less damaged items ![]() edit: if I ever exchange something with amazon I never ship back the old one until the replacement arrives... I've had instances where I have to combine the 2 items to have a perfect set. Best Buy I don't order from online due to poor packaging in the past; if I get something there it is either in store or in store pickup so I can make sure the item is in good shape. I've got 690 Blu-rays. Most of them have come through the mail. Got 4 from ImportCDs yesterday and 1 from Amazon.
I've NEVER returned a BD because of damage to the case or art. That's pretty ridiculous. Unfortunately, this is the kind of nonsense that happens when non-movie fans start buying into Blu-ray because they like pretty, shiny things. That plastic case exists to protect the movie on the disc. That's what matters. That's why cases exist...to absorb damage before it damages the disc holding the movie. People regularly returning the protective case need to think about what they are doing. They should be collecting something else. |

Yep, so far I have small holes in my artwork for Absolute Power and Rain Man thanks to those POS eco cases. This is why I spend money to replace them in my collection.

But having said that, with consumers demanding ever lower prices, I don't think one can expect much when buying a BD priced at $10 or under. Frankly, I am shocked that there were lots of fairly decent movies available this past weekend on BD for as little as $5. |

I haven't had a huge number, but the worst was sliced cover art the entire width of the case, right in the middle. You could see the blue case underneath it. This was a sealed item from amazon, and it was cut before being packaged at the factory. Quote:

![]() In any case, if you buy a large enough quantity you will receive damaged items from time to time (especially if you buy single movies from amazon that ship in bubble mailers through the brutal UPS system, depending on your area). Everyone has a different tolerance, but I just can't imagine getting a "new" movie with a cracked case, and tattered cover art and not being disturbed about it. When I get a new item, that is the condition it will be for as long as I have it, so I want it to be nice! |

To be honest, if i received something with damaged cover art, i get it replaced.
Reason why? If i decide to sell it on any point, it won't be massively devalued because of the damage. Plus i like to have my collection on display |

That was something I noticed though, I went to replace a few that had broken cases at my local Best Buy and all the ones there looked damaged (or sounded damaged rather) the disc was loose from the hub on the inside on all of the items except one of them and the one I ended up with had damage to the cover art but the disc was still attached to the hub, go figure huh?

Also the only BD's in my collection that I can think of that have damaged cover art are Up in the Air, The Town (extended), Beetlejuice and Bloodsport/Timecop double feature, all of these have some type of tear or hole poked thru the cover art, on a few others there are small creases on the cover art and again this is how they came, not something that I did to them. I personally don't feel it is worth it to rebuy the films for the cover art, not sure how others feel but that's how I feel personally.

The funny thing is, the replacement set they sent me had crushed season cases, but the outer slip box was mint... go figure. So I boxed all the damaged crap and kept the pristine set I made from both box sets. Like HD Goofnut, I have begun replacing ECO cases, due to damage occuring to the artwork. In a house full of 5 teenagers, being careful is not in their vocabulary. I have also begun replacing the "tab" cases as well, nearly half of them that were in my collection did not stay closed properly, the clear plastic artwork covers were crinkled, etc. |

The Vortex cases are nice, and though it is not involving BD, I'm actually going to replace my Viva Elite HD DVD cases with these because the Elite's bleed red through the inserts (and have messed up many import release covers). I haven't seen this occur with the blue Elite cases, however.

I've seen you open up topics before on damages to cover art etc. and acting all OCD but when i look at the pictures of your movie collection, it looks like you have set up 2 bookcases filled with blu-rays in some kind of a garbage dump. Are you trolling around or what?
