I take mine off for pics, otherwise they're on.
Paradigm suggests leaving them on as they're designed that way.
Personally I don't notice a difference, but if they can stop a pen from going through my mids, good stuff.

Funny you should mention Paradigm - because when I mentioned that some speakers are engineered to have the grills on - Paradigm was the company that I was thinking of (learned this from Paradigm training I had back in 1996).

Well, I was thinking more of a drunk friend than a kid!
Ha, ha.

When kids arrive, the HT room will be under lock and key.

When I worked at CC, I one day got into a bit of trouble because I kept shooting dirty looks at a little kid who was working his way towards an uncovered speaker in order to poke the tweeter and mid-range drivers. I would look at him, and he would step away, but would inch closer if I glanced away. He ended up poking the tweeter, and I nearly dislocated his shoulder as I sprinted across the floor and snatched his arm away...to late to save the tweeter. His parents started to get pissy until I pointed out the nice speaker their little $hit had just ruined. Not sure if they bought anything, don't remember them ever having come back, and couldn't have cared less if they ever did. Other peoples kids man...

P.S. My daughter got a very abrupt talking-to about what would happen if she ever looked at my speakers wrong or played any type of ball in the same room as the setup, let alone touch a speaker driver. Now she has reached the lofty age of 9 1/2 and enjoys the setup almost as much as I do( she was very disappointed that Disney HD doesn't run more HD programs). therefore, we run grills off.

that's an example of what's wrong with the world..... people won't watch their kid, but they'd probably sue you for emotional distress for yelling at them when they're doing something wrong!!!

Some speakers are designed for the covers to be on and some for them to be off. I know Paradigm, being a "mid-fi" brand expects their speakers to be purchased by mere mortals that probably have normal incomes and families etc. The wood behind the grill cloth is beveled and is calculated into the design of the crossover etc. and the speakers are most assuredly designed to be played with the grills on.

For the most part my grilles are off. I put them on when the grandkids are around though. Funny thing about kids and speakers, if they can't see the cones, they pay no attention to the speakers. But.....if they see the cones, they just MUST touch them.

Get a pair of electrostatics: a few thousand volts through the brats' fingers will teach 'em not to touch!

Mine is always on unless I take pics. Seriously, the kevlar attracts to much attention especially with my kid around so it's best to have it on.

I remember poking tweeters when I was a kid. I wasn't evil, and it wasn't my parents' fault. It just seemed like fun pushing in the 'little bubble'. I would have never thought I could damage the speakers.

I keep the grills on at home in case my three 'angels' get curious about the 'little bubble'.

when i first got my cat Kalli she was eyeballling my speaker grills pretty hard. I was ready for her. I had an iron maiden Cd cued up ready to go with the volume set at full and the receiver on mute... she went towards the grill and i turned off the mute with the remote... must have been like an earthquake to her because shes never gone near them since.
