I miss the THX intro before the movie. I had to load up a regular DVD just to get my fix...lol

Yeah, a lot of them had it at the beginning and at the very end (after the credits -- "the audience is now deaf" at the end). When it was popular to have startup and shutdown sounds on the PC, I used them for the startup/shutdown sounds for a quite a while. Some of the PS3 games have had versions of it but I haven't seen/heard it in any of the movies for a while now.

While not as fancy, I think any THX beginning logo is not necessary now that the Bluray logo appears at the beginning of the disc. I do not think anyone wants to pay for it anymore.
I have everyone of the logo's on my laptop. |

THX is a standard to follow, and not an audio format specification. It is entirely different from dts-hd, dolby, etc, etc.

This site has a bunch of the intros for various studios and also has the standard THX one as well as the THX Lightning one. Quality is just so-so though.
http://www.moviewavs.com/Movies/Prod...Companies.html Edit: Actually, the mp3 versions aren't that bad. Edit 2: Site tells how it all came about: http://musicthing.blogspot.com/2005/...thx-sound.html Last edited by owa; 05-01-2008 at 10:24 PM. |

There was a thread about THX a while ago where members argued if it was useful or not. I say it absolutely is useful, others don't agree.
I think there should be standards set up (such as THX involved with all the processing the film goes through to make sure it matches the director's intentions EXACTLY... like perhaps getting rid of some DNR on certain New Line titles). There could also be a standard for audio, making sure there's at least lossless or uncompressed audio on the disc that is either remixed/mastered for home video use or just absolutely recreates the mixer's intentions. |

My Terminator 2 BD is THX certified. I hear it costs the studios more to get a disk certified and they just don't want to have to pass the costs on to the consumer when some BDs already cost anywhere between $20 and $35 a disk. There was an article here on blu-ray.com not too long ago about this very topic.
