Cars (PS2) on PS3 - Blu-ray Forum

This should play shouldn't it? It's a rental from Blockbuster that is very scratched up and was dirty. Totally locked up the PS3, had to turn it off with the power switch on back. Let it sit while watching Lost and cleaned up the disc and tried again later. Didn't totally lock up the PS3 the second time but did the same thing as far as freezing on the opening cars logo with the circle arrow spinning in the bottom right corner and never loading.

You can play PS2 and even PS1 games on the PS3. It should work but if the disk is scratched and/or dirty the optical laser can't read the data. I would go back to Blockbuster and get a refund or at least an exchange for a newer disk.

If the disk was a blu-ray disk the scratches wouldn't be an issue since blu-ray disks are scratch resistant.

But unless they plan on publishing PS2 games on BD this will continue to be a minor annoyance.
