Default New Receiver

I began hi-jacking, and thought I'd start my own thread......

I have a Marantz SR7001 I'm using currently, and I'm waiting for a new receiver to come out that will give me the latest Codecs and still have the sonically pleasing attributes I'm looking for.

I also want to get another set-up going in my bedroom. I currently have a HDTV, and another PS3 in there, but I'm planning on buying the B&W M-1's

My question.... Although I'd like to move the SR7001 into the bedroom, I can't really replace it in my main theater room (it's a living room basically) so I was thinking about getting this

http://www.accessories4less.com/make...r-SALE-/1.html

for the bedroom, so It wouldn't hurt the budget too much while I'm waiting for Rotel to put out a capable unit to upgrade the main HT set-up.

I listen to a LOT of music, so putting an Onkyo 605 in the main theater room and moving my 7001 to the bedroom is NOT an option. I love the sound from the 7001.

What limitations would the SR5001 have audio-wise if I'm running it with the PS3? Keep in mind that I don't care about any "upconversion" capabilities.... I want the best possible audio/video for Blu-Ray viewing in this room only, as it's my bedroom. DVD/CD Player, etc. aren't a factor for this room.

Thanks!!!

Have you thought about getting the Marantz 7002? It's really something to behold. You could then use the 7001 in the bedroom.... just a thought..

Yeah... but I KNOW I want to get a Rotel once they get something capable of handling the Codecs etc.... I've listened to a couple, and I'm in love with the sound..... If I drop that kind of cash on the 7002 now, it'll really hamper my ability to upgrade (or justifiability I should say!)

So will this 5001 be able to do HD-MA with the PS3 to my little M-1's (that I still need to go pick up)

Am I reading correctly, you have a stand alone in your theater/living room, and PS3 in the bedroom?

Can't figure out why the 7001 mated to a PS3 wouldn't be fantastic (and no need for newest codecs being receiver decoded)

I have a PS3 in both rooms..... but I don't have a receiver OR speakers (yet) in the bedroom.... and want to know if the 5001 will get the same codecs as the 7001 (I couldn't decipher all of the specs! )

EDIT: and yeah... the Big upgrade will put either a higher end Rotel in the theater room, or separates, and the 7001 will then move to the bedroom.... but I need something (under $400) that can go in the bedroom right now to last the next year or so, and I'm looking at that 5001

Looks like the 5001 does take PCM over HDMI. Check out Manual p 24, pdf page 27

6001 doesn't decode the codecs (but your PS3 can as LPCM so you're good to go there). That would be a good deal! FYI - you've got money - The thread I started about the Gales won't help you if you are lookiing at B&W If you know any people that are very low on cash however...I will be putting them through their paces tomorrow. Back to your post...Yes, I would definately go with the 6001! Can't beat it with a stick!

Correction just noticed that you are looking at the 5001 - for $349? Good sonic deal!

It's the 5001 I'm looking at.... should be plenty for the M-1's I have a "spare" set of 686's from a previous upgrade, and I'd love to buy a matching center, then sub, then maybe M-1's for the surrounds..... but it all ends up costing too much, and being too big, (especially the center) so I'm gonna use the 686's for a small 2-channel set-up, with a record-player, and just get the M-1's I'm not entirely sure I want to get a sub for the bedroom (I doubt I'd be allowed to)

I just hope I can get a dedicated room for the main system one day (and a projector......... wow.... the list goes on )

I don't know jack about Rotel (other than a great reputation), but don't forget the PS3 decodes everything internally. Therefore all you need is HDMI v1.1 and make sure it will accept audio over HDMI. If it does, then you're set. You only need a receiver that handles the new codecs if you are bitstreaming Lossless audio to the receiver (PS3 cannot).

Now to get deep colour you'll need atleast HDMI v1.3a

does anybody know if the SR4001 for $299 has the same capabilities (wrt accepting pcm audio over hdmi from the ps3) as the 5001 for $349? is it basically the same as the 5001 without the "xm ready" part?

yes, i'm a cheap bastard!

I believe it's less power, (XM isn't a concern to me, I have Sirius!) marking the price difference, but the link provided above shows the manual for the 4001 AND 5001, and YES, the 4001 is PCM capable, so if you have a PS3, you're getting HD-MA audio......

Oh wait..... the 4001 is a 2-channel Receiver..... you don't want that (at least not for HT)

Same Manual, Same p 24, pdf page 27, with no exceptions listed for the 4001... Sounds like it works the same.
