Default HD Video Source Playback Suggestion

Hey guys, i've never worked with HD videos before and have always preferred the traditional disc format. Unfortunately for me, I've got a bunch of digital H.264 HD videos that i would like to get into in the holiday.

What would be the best source to play the videos to the TV from? My laptop isn't top notch and occasional frame rate issues occur when streaming HD video.

Should i attempt to play them from a hard drive to a BDP?
