Default Ok I just bought the TV and now I need the audio (question)

Hi,

I just bought the Sony XBR4 with 52" (actually I ordered it. I don't have it here), and now I also want to get the sound.

I guess I will go for the Onkyo everybody talks about here.

My question is, which is a good one? They have several Onkyo's on amazon.com. I always read about the model 605 and 705.

Could someone be so nice and post some links? There are several models, and if I am not wrong there is one where everything is included (meaning the speakers).

Another newbie question is:

Is everything I need in the boxes, or do I need to order the audio cables?
I already ordered the $4 hdmi cables from monoprice earlier.

Thanks for the help!

Onkyo TX-SR605 ($394)

Onkyo TX-SR705 ($511)

Onkyo TX-SR805 ($664)

Yamaha RX-V663 ($424)

any of these would be great for the price.

You would however need speakers...and you can buy speaker wire at monoprice.com

I would direct you to this thread: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=47742

It's a discussion about the new 606, 705 and 805 from Onkyo. I have the 805 as of Friday and am in love with my new toy!

Which speaker wires should I buy? And do I also need banana plugs?

I guess, the moment I will have everything together I am going to post here again and ask for help.
I am so clueless when it comes to audio, no clue how to connect speakers, wires, and receiver!

When you're at Monoprice's webpage, get the cheapest speaker wires there. It would STILL be good for your purpose. Banana plugs are handy IF you are constantly moving the speakers; otherwise, all you need to do is crimp and solder the exposed tip for easy insertion.

Remember to be diligent about the polarity when connecting ALL OF THE SPEAKERS. Speaker wires always have a mark in one of the two strands. Use the marked one consistently from the speakers to the receiver and you should have no problem. The recent Auto configuration on receivers using the supplied mike will eliminate the problem if you got it wrong though.

buying the Onkyo because "everyone here talks about it" may not be the worst reason to choose it, but It's right up there!!!!

I am not good in telling the differences when it comes to audio. I see the difference between a blue ray and a dvd when it comes to the pq.

I once had a Harman Kardon with 5.1 Dolby Digital, and I was really happy with it. I don't even know how big the differences are between TrueHD and Dolby Digital. Every time I see a blue ray running at Best Buy I can't really tell that it is THAT much of a difference.

That's why I thought that the Onkyo wouldn't be bad for me, considering that they have (what you guys are saying) a good sound for not much money.

I would also think about a Harman Kardon as I posted here https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=harman+kardon

I found one on amazon which is 7.1

http://www.amazon.com/Harman-kardon-...019481&sr=1-14

And also checked their website

http://www.harmankardon.com/specific...%20347&sType=C

I am not sure which one can do more, one of the Onkyo models or that Harman Kardon where I wouldn't need to worry about buying speakers etc.
