I love me Nexus 7, can't go wrong there for that price point.

I went back and forth between an iPad Air and Note 10.1 2014 edition and chose the Note for a few reasons. Expandable storage, more system memory and the spen put it over the top for me (so did the lack of restrictions on app building but I doubt that applies for the op). In his price range the following options are solid: Apple: iPad Mini 32gb Android (most examples below only have 16gb models but have expandable storage options): Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 (although perhaps wait for the impending refresh and I would point out these have no expandable storage options either) Galaxy Tab 3 (7, 8, and 10.1) Galaxy tab pro 8.4 (coming at the end of the month) Out of those options for Android, I would say get the Tab pro 8.4 unless you are looking for a 10" screen. Before it looks like I'm an android homer (and yes I admit I do prefer them and also have an android phone) I would also say that it's beneficial to stay within the ecosystem you currently use unless you hate it. For example if you use an iPhone and really like it, you should stick with Apple and buy an iPad. If using an Android device, lean more towards s an Android tablet. Being able to reuse your existing apps, have a familiar UI and easier sharing between devices is a big plus. |

Thanks OP for posting this thread. I'm actually considering demoting my HP computer and getting a tablet for our house. We mainly use it to pay bills and cruise the internet. Outside of it, it is just taking up space and more trouble than it is worth.

The past two years best buy has had great Black Friday deals on ipad.
Year before last I bought 2 for my parents (they paid for them) because I have early bf sales access. I think they got 16gb models. This year my neighbor used my bb account to buy one,... I think she got ipad2 for $100 off. There aren't many sales but it's been part of Black Friday sales the past two years. |

I bought a MS Surface RT as I got a great deal on it ($250CDN). It included the TouchCover keyboard and a copy of MS Office. I upgraded to the TypeCover keyboard and I'm glad I did.
My use for a tablet is different then for most. I don't stream anything, nor do I care for apps much. It's my replacement for a laptop, so having a copy of MS Office included was a huge plus. |

there's TONS better tablets than an Ipad. the Asus transformer is great (probably one of the best), or if you like win, there's the a couple that do it well like the surface but crapple is way over priced for proprietary OS... always go with what can be open sourced.

I have a Galaxy Note 1 phone as well (love it, love it). I looked at the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, but couldn't justify the $500 price.

I don't know the first thing about tablets but I do know when I get my own place I will put this old(ish) PC in my bedroom and use another device for the Internet in the den and the rest of the house. I may just get a newer desktop and use that but I am also considering a tablet since I will want whole apartment Internet access.
