For a BD release, I think it's all about having a lossless soundtrack and fitting the entire theatrical experience (both movies and all trailers) on one disk.

Why are their heads so far up their asses??? If they can't afford blu-ray, then they should sell the company to Sony, Paramount, Universal, etc. This will make people much happier.

There is another thread about this. I think you will find some answers regarding weinstien company.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=46839

I think their Major issue, is lack of financial means to start production. And remember although yes they did release a few titles on HDDVD, production for BD is more expensive. So let alone having problems producing already on HDDVD, you can come to the idea, that yes definitely they are having a tough time with money.

No, it's lack of ROI in a reasonable period

A large percentage of Blu titles that have come out have not sold enough units to pay the costs on production

Weinstein would rather invest that money in new films, rather than wait a year or so to make their money back. None of their movies falls into the action whizbang genre that's popular on Blu

I think Weinstein released Forbidden Kingdom. Although I want to say it was in association with Lionsgate (who I imagine will be releasing the Blu-Ray).

Weinstein has different distributors but always keep their home video rights

Don't be shocked if they have Blu on the shelf before the end of the year, Forbidden Kingdom is a no-brainer, and recycling Clerks 2 and whatever else they put out should be a simple matter. The really expensive stuff is already done

interesting...

I found this link about weinstien when HDDVD was alive. although the article is old dating to last year, but it has an idea of whats going on. the final paragraph where it states the situation weinstien.

( It could very well be they’re finding the market is just too small for a company of their size to turn any profit (looking at Paramount’s sales where they sold all off 500 of a certain title gives this some weight), and that would have to be my initial guess. However, I’m just curious about why they’ve done this.)
