There is no 17" in the current MacBook lineup but I've read rumours that it may be making a return. The old 17" MacBooks are pretty sweet and can still be found for sale refurbished on apples site from time to time I believe |

I use the intermediate definitions (1440 x 900 or 1680 x 1050) when I need more space for a window and I haven't actually experienced any drawback. The text still looks smooth. The non-optimized pictures may look worse but that's about it. I have even tried native definition (2560 x 1600) with Display Menu (free on the Mac App Store), but it's overkill... So, I assume you can take a 15" MBP retina, put it to the native definition of the late 17" MBP and have a fine time with it. I doubt that the 17" MacBook will return. When you look at Windows PCs, this size is getting less popular. And remember that buyers of high-end MBP are mostly people who need it for video. As some of them need pixel-for-pixel accuracy (to test 4K video for instance), there's little reason to make a third size, especially now that the GPU on a high-end 15" can handle a second display fine. |

I wouldn't bother; it makes website images look hideous.

Now I need a retina display, because most of the websites I frequent or want to frequent don't work do to the spinning pinwheel of death. Some times the front page of Blu-ray gets this so does IGN, digital bits, and Roger Ebert.

It isn't clear to me why you think a retina display will fix this problem? I'd say you've got other issues if pages aren't loading or applications are hanging, the resolution of your screen isn't going to make those problems go away,

Because it would be a different computer.
