Nah, there are 3 or 4 good movies in that franchise out of what? 9?

Friday the 13th is consistently better, imo.

1. Halloween
2. Nightmare on Elm Street (although I tend to watch Friday more)
3. Friday the 13th
4. Scream
5. Texas Chainsaw Massacre
6. Saw
7. Paranormal Activity
8. Hellraiser
9. Chucky

Really the bottom 4 could go either way.

I liked the first two activities, but for me it went stale after that.

That's just the thing.

When you look at it, a lot of franchises are not as consistently great as we often imagine.

Halloween? Yeah, it has one of the greatest films ever in its roster, and a few good sequels, and I for one don't mind the Zombieween remakes, but there is a lot of actual garbage in there.

Friday the 13th on the other hand, I agree is a better franchise. My favorite is Final Chapter, and yeah that's nowhere near Halloween 1, but I like or love all the films (except Jason Goes To Hell, I really can't get behind that one, unfortunately), to the point where I quote one of them in my signature here!

Nightmare though is consistently solid, I can say all of them except Freddy's Dead I at least enjoy.

Really, Texas Chainsaw is underrated as a franchise. You have to start it off one of the greatest films ever, and the other ones are at least effective at being hilarious. And Matthew McConnaughey!

Chucky is a franchise I have no tolerance for. I don't find dolls/clowns scary, like at all (it's for that reason that I really don't care for Stephen King's It either). To the point where I find the fact that they are so generally feared to be bizarre. And so they fail in that way for me, and the more comedic installments just hit me the wrong way. So I really dislike the Child's Play franchise. I should note, however, that Puppet Master is an extremely badass franchise and I love those things.

But yeah, I'm sticking with PHANTASM for GOAT horror franchise.

I haven't looked to horror films to scare me or creep me out since I was a child. That is probably why I am so bored of these modern ghost haunting films. They all play out with the same formula. New house, family senses things, experiences a haunt, has specialists check the haunt out, big climax, happy ending.

No death? No blood? No Jamie Lee Curtis or Bruce Campbell? No thanks.

I look to them for either ironic humor/nostalgia/or just plain ol' entertainment. That being said the first Halloween film puts it above every other franchise, even if the only good sequel is part 2, hell I like all of them except zombie's part 2 remake. Evil Dead would come next, and third Nightmare on Elm Street. Again, the sheer brilliance of the first puts it above mostly everything else. I watched the VHS so many times I had to throw it out Paranormal Activity would be my least favorite franchise, I stopped after 1. Saw sucks too.

Like most horror franchises often do.

Really the only Halloween sequels that consistent get a bad rap are 5 and Resurrection. Outside of those are some pretty solid sequels that at least try to add something to the storyline.

Friday has some solid sequels as well, but I think 5, 8, and everything outside of the paramount films are really bad.

Just my 2 cents.

I honestly think the Halloween franchise is probably the worst out of all the well known slasher franchises. The original started a cult phenomenon, after that though, it was all downhill. Very lackluster series IMO.
