Default ** REGION FREE blu ray player master list **

I noticed there are more than a few threads discussing region free blu-ray players scattered throughout the forum. I would like this to be a source thread with a list of available region free blu-ray players, as well as review links and updates on longevity of use.

Here is a list of known region free players so far (updates pending):

Orei BDP-M1 3D player:
purchase links: amazon.com ($199.00-$416.00),
blu-ray.com forum post 1,

Orei BDP-M2 2D/3D player:
purchase links: Orei home site ($150.00), amazon.com ($110.67-$125.00),

Seiki SR212S:
purchase links: amazon.com ($59.00), ebay.com, Sears ($23.93-$41.93),
blu-ray.com forum post 1, forum post 2 ("how to" for codes),

I think it would be good to list if each of the blu-ray players have or do not have CINIVA

I'm looking for a Blu-ray player that is region free and can also play region free and ntsc and pal formatted DVDs. I'm a huge World Rally Championship fan and 95% of all the year review DVDs are formatted in pal dvd.

Any recommendations would be great!

The M1 seems to be no longer available, it's most likely superseded by the M2. Orei also offers the cheaper model A3 (http://www.amazon.com/BDP-A3-Compact.../dp/B00FA820LE).

Amazon also lists the ICOM BD780 (http://www.amazon.com/Icom-BD780-Mul...words=icom+780) which looks virtually identical to the Orei BDP-M2.

They don't make Blu-ray players anymore without Cinavia. It's a mandatory requirement for all player manufactured starting in 2013.

Just do a search of players made in 2012 or earlier and there's your list. But it's going to be a player that's been discontinued and may be difficult to find new.

SEIKI SR212S was prodiced in 2013 without CINIVA, so that is why asked about the OREI ones

Anyone ever had a Seiki SR212S? The price is insane, I'm actually looking for a region free DVD player as most of my blus are region A or ABC. But for 26 bucks, it might be worth a shot. I've got a few region 2 Pal dvds I can't watch as of now.

Cinavia support has been mandatory for Blu-ray devices since february 2012, so you need to go back to 2011 for devices without Cinavia out of the box.

For Panasonic Blu-ray players/recorders/home cinema systems there's a solution in form of a custom firmware which allows for Cianvia deactivation and region freedom (DVD and Blu-ray)

I've had no issues with mine and have had it for almost a year. No issues playing my region locked DVDs or Blu-rays and no issues with 1080i50 Blu-rays converting to 1080i60 on the fly either.

You can't remove all video processing but to be honest with the small % of discs I'd use this for given that my Pioneer Elite handles my non-region locked 1080i50 Blu-rays and PAL DVDs it's not bothersome. I can watch them and that's all that counts. The picture looks pretty good and the player has a tiny footprint so for what it does for the price it's a recommended buy from me.

Absolutely relevant, the Orei M2 converts all 1080i50 content to 1080i60 with no artifacting. All Samsung players do this too but can't play region locked discs, however the earlier players like the BD-P2550 and BD-P1600 both had artifacting/strobing when converting to 60Hz, the BD-D5500 that I had for a while worked fine. This was something I was concerned about when I ponied up for the Orei...however it works perfectly. Very nice 50Hz conversion. No issues with PAL > 1080i60 either.

I'm a huge F1 fan which is why I got the Orei, the 2011 and 2012 F1 season review discs from the UK are both 1080i50 and REGION B locked.

I'm looking at the OREI BDP-A3. 3D isn't important to me. Does the A3 have the option/feature of "Source Direct" ? I'm looking for a region free bluray player that has 'Source Direct' for an option because I have a Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD plasma that I want to do the processing. Does the A3 only play region free dvd's or does it play region free blurays as well? I'm in the U.S. so I want to be able to play blurays from around the world.

Also, does Oppo and Pioneer make a region free bd player?

I'm a big F1 fan and MotoGP fan. I bought the 2012 MotoGP season review bluray and it didn't work on my Pioneer Elite BDP-23FD. That's why I'm looking for a region free player. Does the Orei or Seiki have 'Source Direct' feature on them?

I received the Orei BDP-A3 over the weekend and it played a Region B disc (Pinocchio) and 1080i50 content (Strassen in Flammen extras) without issue, as well as all manner of DVD.

I got one a few months ago. I've watched half a dozen blu-rays and a couple of region 2 PAL DVDs and had no problems.

No it does not, which is why I don't expect the A3 would either.

Oddly enough my Pioneer Elite BDP-62FD doesn't have this feature to the best of my knowledge (I just searched the .pdf of the owner's manual for "DIRECT" and nothing came up). I set it to "PROFESSIONAL" and just tried to turn off as many settings as I could, same pretty much that I did with the BDP-M2.
