I discovered a major secret that Best Buy rolled out when it introduced that MyBestBuy program last fall.
As of the beginning of that program, if you make a purchase using a Best Buy branded credit card and select any of their financing offers, you will not receive points for that purchase. For example if you were to buy a $2000 TV, you would normally receive a Rewards certificate for $40. (every $250 spent equals $5 Rewards) Now if you buy that TV on a Best Buy credit card and select "No interest for 24 months", you get no points at all whatsoever. There is still the standard revolve though. Meaning if you use the card to buy that TV but do not use the financing and pay the whole balance off within 30 days, you would get 5% back in Rewards. ($100 certificate instead of just $40) So to those wondering why they are no receiving points for their purchases…this may be why... Last edited by Meeklo; 01-13-2014 at 03:08 AM. |

I thought that was the way it always worked?
You only got points if you didn't choose a special financing offer. I thought it was always one or the other, not both. |

You won't receive points but it does count towards your "required spending amount" if you want to re-qualify for Elite or Elite Plus.
Best way to rack up points is to buy Amazon Kindle Cards. If you are Elite Plus + Use BB Card, you get 150 points for a $50 card. For me it's great for home items I buy on amazon like whey protein and everything that's NOT a major electronic purchase. |

Yeah, that change irritated me as well and has cost them at least one purchase from me. I'd made quite a few large purchases there over the years and took advantage of the combo of points and 0% financing. I was picking out a new fridge for the wife and noticed the change in their program and ended up shopping around because of it. Turns out HH Gregg had the same fridge for the same price with the same 0% financing, but also gave 11% off upfront through their version of RZ. Made it an easy choice on where to buy.

Yeah, I've bought numerous large purchases over the years, and I always received rewards points when using the financing option with the credit card. I had to replace my macbook pro in November, and noticed that I didn't receive any rewards points for it. I called and found that the policy changed sometime over the summer.

The kindle cards can be used for regular purchases on amazon? I might start shopping that way just for the BB points. |
