Now if someone makes a binder case that uses trays instead of sleeves, we'd be in business. Anyone know of one? A long time ago I had one that held about 36 discs but can't find it anywhere now. It was a really interesting design. I think I got it at Target. I went back and they do not sell it or anything similar there anymore.

I've been looking for that exact design for the last 3 years or so.

I just dug around and found a smaller one (same concept):

Google "12 dvd case".

I noticed damage to a disc from the cut-outs on an eco case. It looks like the edge of the cut-outs can leave an imprint on the disc surface.

Default Movie Storage Suggestions

Hey guys, I'm looking to condense my collection between my Blu-rays/DVDs & my games from taking all my bookshelf space into maybe a cd hardcase or a cd wallet. I definitely have about 1000-1200 cds total of all my media. I am not looking into throwing away my cases but just going to stuff them into a closet. Any options you guys can throw at me, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If you want to have to have your disc easily accessible, I think this is a good way to go. http://www.amazon.com/Merax-Aluminum-like-Storage-Capacity-Sleeves/dp/B007KEMXN6/ref=sr_1_41?ie=UTF8&qid=1389624345&sr=8-41&keywords=cd+storage+case

If you want to keep them in a furniture type display etc then this may work for you as well.

http://www.mediastorageshop.com/libr...in-walnut-.htm

I have never used a library card type storage but I can see how it could easily look good in any viewing room. I have a few of the storage cases that i mentioned previously. They have been with me through umpteen moves and still hold up strong lol

Thumbs up My simple solution

I live in a small apartment and space is at a premium so I put around 600 cds, filling a shelving system, on an external HDD and plugged that into my Blu-ray player.I just put all the cds in boxes which are hidden under the bed and on top of another shelving unit and also under my table/bench system.Cost nothing but time.

Lastly I bought a pack of the discsox separator(a-z) so I could have everything alphabetical in the case. I also stripped all of the plastic 'hangers' from the cd sleeves and instead printed out labels for each of the discs to slide into the header part of the sleeve, it's a really easy to use setup I think. As you can see from the picture I only have about the first 2 rows filled up, and that is nearly 300 bluray discs. You could easily store more if you choose to use both sides of the sleeve, but I only use the one side to make it easier while searching for a movie. I also have a small printed list of all of my blurays that I keep pinned to the top inside of the case, makes it easier to remember what all I have in there!

Here's the case I bought, it's nice and sturdy, I caught it on sale for $24.99 a long while back, they sell them in larger and smaller capacity as well:

This is pretty much the setup I had in mind beforehand. I might just buy the 1000 cd hard case then. Hopefully, shit don't break.

I don't think you'll have anything to worry about as far as the case breaking, it's pretty sturdy, I actually used it once to step on and hammer something into the wall (I weigh almost 300lbs!). Probably wasn't the best idea, but shows it's pretty sturdy.

The only thing I was never 100% happy with is the sleeves provided, I eventually would like to get discsox to use (I save all of the artwork from my cases then throw the cases away). You'll definitely want to strip the plastic hanger system, it sucks.

Yeah,... it's cool that CDs even if ripped losslessly don't take up much hard drive space. I have all my cds stored losslessly on an ipod classic and I think 300 CDs comes to about 80GB.

Putting them all in storage is nice.

I like the flat-pack storage solution offered by dvdbinders, where you keep the sleeve art along with the discs all in one place, instead of having to separate them, while still maximizing the use of shelf space. This way, you can still 'browse' through your collection.

Since I'm also very space-limited, what I'm planning to do is use their sleeves in a slightly smaller binder that will fit my existing shelf i.e. the binders they offer are over 9.2" high - I'm going to try and find one locally that's about 8" high.

Default Dvd Sleeves

I started with Dvd sleeves that hold both the disc and cover, storing in folders but when that became too much I found a filing cabinet of the right size to store the sleeves in. Now it fits over 1700 movies in a two draw filing cabinet

Has anyone used the Discgear containers and have had a problem with them? I have a few and so far have not had any problems. The only iffy thing that I can think of with those is that it uses a little catch piece to grab the disc. The other worry would be just dropping the disc or scratching it against another disc when removing it.

Default Too many Discs

I ran into the same problem at 1800 discs. I had put all my discs into full size jewel cases to start with but even that took up too much room in my equip closet. I went to Supermediastore.com and bought 2000 black paper sleeves with clear windows on them. Using DVDProfiler software, I labeled each disc sleeve with its database number and stacked them back onto the Atlantic CD rack in numerical order. It shrunk it down the space needed by 75%. With the database printout in a binder, I can find any movie in just seconds. They cost about $30 per 1000. I found this to be the most economical way of storing my movies

I may have to look into that DIscSox thing for my DVDs. That's an interesting idea

As far as a binder, is there a recommendation? With so many TV series that get shipped in horrible storage solutions (That 70s Show, Seinfeld, Andy Griffith, presumably Frasier when it's released next month) I would like to get a binder to hold my seasons.

I'm looking for something that hopefully has removable pages so I can take out pages I'm not using and insert pages between seasons that are already in the binder. When I randomly browse Amazon I see binders with so-so reviews (don't hold the advertised amount, poor quality, etc.)

Since this thread I've had plenty of time to 'experiment'. I have a lot of discs in Tyvek sleeves in a little drawer. As long as the discs aren't packed in tightly, and they are stored vertically, I haven't had any problems with them (although I do still see a slight pit or two, nothing has caused playback issues).

Taking the disc out of the sleeve and just letting it sit (or putting it back in it's proper case) is enough to fix it eventually. The pits will slowly disappear (using a hair dryer or the hot water trick (hadn't though of that one) just speeds the process up).

While the damage doesn't seem to be permanent, I still wouldn't recommend storing Blu-rays in anything that actually comes into contact with surface of the disc. But if you do, just don't do it in a way that there's a lot of pressure against the discs (like stacking them on top of each other, or using a completely stuffed binder or drawer to store them in). Give the sleeves/pages a little wiggle room.
What do you mean by developing pits from the sleeves?

Haha sorry about that. Lazy on my part as I wrote my question right before I went to bed.

So the obvious problem is if you stack your discs (vertically) while in the sleeves. But you're saying you still see a few pits even if you store your discs horizontally in a drawer like a filing system?

I have been looking into a storage system like this recently as a space saver but with so many people in here reporting the same problem I'm having second thoughts.
