Thumbs up

NWF are a fantastic label who need to have more of their films on Blu-ray.

^^^^beat me too it.
Verve have quite afew of their dvds for £6.
Sainsburys have their dvds & blus from £4.99 dvds £6.99 blus. You have to search by title.

Great company.
I wish they'd embrace blu ray abit more. They have some magnificent films in their catalogue.

Nice, I already have several of these - Uncle Boonmee was one of my first blu-rays as it's been one of my favourite films since seeing it - but I also have Tabu and Like Someone In Love. I have Nostalgia For The Light on DVD but have not watched it yet, is it worth upgrading?

In The Fog looks good, can anyone recommend it?

Yeah they do have a lot of incredible films on DVD as well as Blu-ray. As with Cinema Guild I hope they can find it economically viable this year to distribute more titles on BD.

Are New Wave Films related to Verve Pictures? I'm surprised Post Tenebras Lux wasn't a NWF release.

I always assumed so as I bought a couple of them through Viva Verve. You would also think things like Dogtooth and Las Acacias would be through them if that's the case...wonder what their specifications are for a New Wave Pictures film.

I have In The Fog on order. Purchased due to Pro-B's strong recommendation (was in his top 10 UK discs of 2013)

Congratulations to Ceylan for the Palme. I wonder if NWF picked up anything else at Cannes.

Also exciting is Norte, the End of History getting a theatrical release in July.

Winter Sleep is on the list of Blu-ray film titles I've been wanting to get for a while, along with Once Upon a Time in Anatolia. Like Someone in Love is a possible double-dip title (I've had a look at Pro-B's reviews of the Criterion and New Wave Films Blu-ray releases, and there dosen't appear to be much differences between them).

Great news, guys!

I contacted New Wave about a couple of their upcoming titles - namely, Apitchatpong Weerasethakul's Cemetery of Splendour and Jia Zhangke's Mountains May Depart - and whether they would be released on Blu-ray as well as DVD. At first, I got this response:

Quote:
Not sure about BRD yet, we still haven't got a release date yet for either - out later this year.
But later today they deleted that response and instead changed it to:

Quote:
Yes on Cemetery of Splendour - late summer, release date tbc. Mountains to be decided later.
Excellent news! That'll be the third Weerasethakul title to make it to Blu-ray in the UK - the first being Uncle Boonmee (also from New Wave), and the second being Mysterious Object at Noon (from Second Run, and only their second ever Blu-ray release). Seeing as he's one of the very best directors working today, I am very glad to see his work being appreciated like this!

I hope they will do the same for Jia's new film, as he is potentially the most interesting director from mainland China right now (that I know of).

I will follow this up with a query about Miguel Gomes' Arabian Nights, thought that might be a little more tricky to get to Blu-ray - presumably they would have to press it across three discs, or squeeze them onto two or one (which could prove difficult). With today's announcement of Criterion arriving in the UK, we should be reminded to support smaller labels such as this one, otherwise we may one day never see these kinds of films on home video at all!

That is indeed great news. I've seen both and will buy both of these on Blu Ray from New Wave.
