Default Star Wars 'is top film obsession'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6629907.stm

MEN'S MOST-WATCHED FILMS:
1. Star Wars trilogi - Blu-ray exclusive (Fox)
2. Aliens - Blu-ray exclusive (Fox)
3. The Terminator Blu-ray exclusive (MGM)
4. Blade runner - neutral (Warner)
5. The Godfather - neutral (paramount)

WOMEN'S MOST-WATCHED FILMS
1. Dirty Dancing - Blu-ray exclusive (Lionsgate)
2. Star Wars trilogi - Blu-ray exclusive (Fox)
3. Grease - neutral (paramount)
4. The sound of music Blu-ray exclusive (Fox)
5. Pretty Woman Blu-ray exclusive (Dimension, prior to October 1, 2005, so Disney

Bottom line, buy Blu-ray and then you and your girlfriend won't miss your favorite movies, when they are released

LOTR was Top 10 for both genders though not Top 5 for either... has to be held back simply because the films are so long for repeated viewings. Also thought it was odd that The Matrix only made the Top 10 for women... is it Keanu? Really doesn't seem like a chick flick to me.

10-3 (7-0 on exclusives)

That pretty much sums up the futility of HD DVD, doesn't it?

pish-posh. where's Indiana Jones? Raiders was the only movie I ever bothered to see 8 times in theaters (of course that's back when movies were out for like 3 mos.)

It does...

Since Star Wars is Blu-ray exclusive, HD-DVD supporters would probably say, that they are poor movies

And I would say none of those movies are out so it matters little anyways. (Well, 1 will be, Dirty Dancing, weee!)

I'd like to see these studios get back on track and release what they already promised.

I'm really beginning to hate these "hypothetical" threads.

Well there are 2 movies on this list that are already out on blu-ray.

Dirty Dancing is out today 05-08-2007, which is the number 1 movie for women and Terminator which is number 3 for men.

Star Wars is not a Blu-ray exclusive. Lucas owns the rights outright, and can choose to release on whatever format he sees fit to release it on, both, or none.

The survey was carried out by the Sky Movies Sci-fi & Horror Channel to tie in with the Sci-Fi London film festival.
I think this answers why movies like Star Wars and The Matrix would show up in the Top 10 for women in this survey. Obviously, if they are women watching the Sci-fi & Horror channel, then they would be predisposed to watching those sorts of movies anyway. If this were a more random sampling of women (and even men, for that matter) I'm sure the results would be much different.

Yeah, whatever happened to movies playing in the theater for awhile? I'm so busy these days that when I finally get the free time to go out to see a movie it's usually gone. Hence the need to just collect them on Blu-ray.

yeah seriously - is it a symptom of short-attention spans these days or something? well, at least the technology is becoming such that I can get the same quality or better at home
