Oh man I haven't seen the show since I was a kid. Given his style it will be interesting to see what he does with the story.

Frank Miller is seriously one of the best directors of all time. His movies are wonderful, so I can't wait for this one.

I just picked up the complete series about 2 months ago. Have watched about half of it now. Man, so cheesy! But I still do like it, brings back all the good childhood memories.......

As to Frank Miller being one of the best director's of all time... Are we talking about Frank "300" Miller? He has only co-directed parts of Sin City and now finishing The Spirit. I wouldn't go as far as to say he is one of the best, yet.

I didn't think Buck Rogers was going to be a movie, I figured it would be a tv show, maybe start up after Battlestar Galactica finishes.

A Buck Rogers movie would be cool if it is done right. I used to love that show when I was a kid.

Is it going to be based on the 80's series, or the 30's-40's serial?

According to this, Miller is not doing it, not yet anyway.

I wouldn't hold out too much hope on this being any good-- Nu Image makes a ton of crappy direct to video action movies.

Old Thread but look's like it's going to happen now

"Frank Miller Helming Buck Rogers
Source: The Hollywood Reporter December 19, 2008

Frank Miller and Odd Lot Entertainment, the creator and production company behind upcoming The Spirit are close to teaming again on the classic sci-fi property Buck Rogers, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Odd Lot is in negotiations to option the rights to "Rogers" from Nu Image/Millennium, which obtained those rights this year from the Dille Trust. Millennium is expected to get a credit on the movie but won't be involved in day-to-day production.

Miller will write and direct his own big-screen take on the comic serial; while the creator has only begun to sketch ideas, it's expected to be a darker take, with many of Miller's signature visual elements and themes, such as corruption and redemption.

It's likely to be a priority project for Miller, though he has been mulling a Sin City sequel.

One of the first pop-culture vehicles to tackle the issue of space exploration, the story of Buck Rogers began life as a comic serial in the late 1920's and early '30's and has seen numerous film and television versions over the years."

I just don't see Frank Miller doing a Buck Rogers movie...a film noire? And with the negative review that The Spirit is getting, will this truly happen?

YES! If anyone can do something special with this franchise, it's Frank Miller. *faints*

Forgive me if you're being sarcastic, but Frank Miller has one and a half directing credits to his name. One of those movies hasn't been released yet. I don't think he's in position to be bumping Hitchcock or Bergman off the best all-time directors list any time soon.

I'm not sure how well a Buck Rogers movie could do. The 70s show was SO cheesy!

True. But Miller's one and a half directing credits to his name look mighty impressive. While The Spirit isn't out yet, their is huge potential with it's outcome based off the comics and what we've seen of Sin City.

I disagree whole heartedly. I fell asleep in Sin City and the Spirit does not look all that great and the reviews are not that promising either.

Now lets look at some of his writing credits:

Robocop 2
Robocop 3

Plus he wanted to make Batman poor, living in the ghetto with a black mechanic named Big Al. Check the trivia on IMDB for Batman Begins on that.

Yeah he has a long way to go.

I think Frank Miller as done some wonderful graphic novels but his obsession with the film noire genre just would not work for Buck Rogers. Buck Rogers is a popcorn adventure story. I just can't see him writing and directing something like this.

I loved Sin City(Dir. Robert Rodriguez), but everything I've seen about Miller's Spirit actually made me not want to go see it. The trailers look too much like the style of Sin City. I wouldn't mind seeing that style in Sin City 2 but I'm waiting for video on The Spirit. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say maybe Miller ought to stick to what he's known for, graphic novels. As far as being a great director, that has yet to be seen since he was a guest director for Sin City, and Zach Snyder did "300". I just don't think The Spirit is going to do very well, as a matter of fact my prediction is that it will bomb.

I agree. I think The Spirit may turn out to be one of the worst movies ever. The previews look like a bunch of amateurs got together and threw something together. From what I could tell even Samuel L Jackson and Eva Mendez had to go from bad acting to all time worst acting for this movie.
