Default DVDs with the best PQ

Which DVDs do you own or have seen on a large-screen TV that look above-average in terms of picture quality?

I'd have to say Wolf Creek. The picture looked almost uncompressed by DVD standards.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy. They look really spiffy upconverted, and I find them to be aesthetically pleasing in terms of the visual quality.

Kenneth Branagh's "Hamlet" (watched it last night). I was very impressed with the pq.

As for the worst - that I've seen on a major studio release - it would have to be "Sunshine". The picture was so muddy I had a hard time making out details. I wasn't until I got the Blu-ray that I was fianlly able to get a good look at the ship.

I would have to agree, Star wars, Indiana Jones, Toy story, all looked great upscaled. But Evil Dead II the THX disc was terrible. And my copy of saving private ryan looked like crap. But I don't watch dvd's much anymore They suck.

The 2005 rerelease of Titanic as a 4 disk set is as close to perfect as I have ever seen.. Played on the Oppo up scaling dvd it is close to Blu....
I understand that Cameron did the remaster to HD quality in the planning stages of a HD release...
When that did not happen the Remaster came out as this special edition DVD set.

'Cars' on DVD was the first and only time that I looked at digital home media content and said to myself, "Is that what Hi-Def is going to look like? This is just too good to be a DVD."

I thought Cloverfield had pretty good PQ (yes I know it's dark and shakey etc). The newer Disney-Pixar stuff looks the best to me, Cars and Ratatouille look amazing for a dvd. I'll have to watch my LOTR again as I haven't seen them since I bought my HDTV. PotC trilogy looks pretty good as well.
