United Kingdom Where do you go for blu ray?

At the moment I buy all mine from amazon. They seem to be the only reasonably priced store, I've not found anywhere that offered the same prices.

However, if find their range is limited. I wouldn't mind getting some different titles than they have on offer.

Who do you think offers the best range of titles regardless of the price?

I echo Clacton's response. If you're ok with pre owned titles, then you can't go wrong with CEX. Base do new and pre owned items and they have similar prices to CEX.

The only problem with CEX is that the specialised brands like Eureka/Masters Of Cinema, Arrow and, sometimes, BFI blu rays can be as much or even more than the retail prices. Their prices go up and down, depends on how much they have in stock in really. Most big studio blu rays are very cheap, though.

Another place worth looking at is Thatsentertainment.co.uk. They don't have much stock but they are decent priced.

Another problem with CEX is they won't post internationally and I'm in Japan. But as I said in another thread blu rays are VERY expensive here, for example, one title "my neighbour totoro" which is a Japanese anime film costs 5000yen and I can get it online at Amazon and have it shipped here for 2500 yen.

I also want the digital codes that come with the discs, for trade. Two movies for the price of one.

I just meet my contact in some back alley in the middle of the night. I give him a sandwich, or a box of chocolates, or a bag full of live kittens, and he gives me a bundle of Blu-Rays. No questions asked.

Tesco Direct get my vote, for the big releases they are normally the same price as Amazon but they dispatch early so you usually receive the Saturday before release whereas normally Amazon won't even start processing your pre-order until the Sat/Sun and you will be lucky to have it before Tuesday.

Play is worth checking its now marketplace, so like amazon private sellers and they can be new or used, do get some bargains on there.

Also eBay. notice a lot of US names from amazon like moviemars use eBay, check the picture and description and ask seller questions. I get hold of stuff so cheap and also stuff with mint slipcases that just aren't around anymore. Good thing if you are looking for something in particular and hard to find. Also good if you're bored and pick up something for 99p cause no one bid etc

Question for the CEX users. I do pop in store for the odd hidden gem (T2 steelbook £6, mint) I haven't used online cause I do see stuff instore where the slips are torn or the amaray is dirty etc, I've said on more then one occasion to forget the sale as the disc looks like its been used as a coaster or worse.

How about from online, are people getting good quality used items or broken dirty scratched stuff? Is it just hit and miss, how do they deal with returns?

When I do buy Blu-rays...

Online - Amazon
In-Store - HMV

I bought so many Blu-rays last year...way to many if I'm honest...it really does get out of hand a lot of the time...takes over.

This year, I've decided that I'm going to severely reduce the amount of Blu-rays that I buy, either online or in-store. I've got so many that I haven't even got round to watching yet, it's unreal.

If I'm buying online then its Amazon (UK & US) everytime.

In-store I use ASDA or Tesco, very rarely HMV.

Amazon (UK, US, Canada, France, Germany) and Zavvi are my usual two.

Play, Base, CEX, YesAsia too to a lesser degree.

I've had one, and all I can say regarding it is...NEVER AGAIN!!!!

The Item in question was a Batman/Superman animated DVD...the case/inlay artwork looked like it had been chewed to bits by a dog, and the disc itself was absolutely covered in scratches.

NEVER AGAIN.

Shockingly bad I'm afraid, possibly as bad as Zavvi when you don't pay through Paypal.

Ordered on one occasion last year through them, Metropolis; it arrived 3 days later, cracked case, but only the booklet inside, no disc. No number to call, so I emailed CS my concerns. 4 days later a rude reply along the lines of prove it arrived. I remember threatening to report them to trading standards to where I got a 2nd reply some days later asking which store I'd ordered from. I replied saying isn't it in the order details? 3 weeks passed without reply, I reported them and was advised to recite some points to CEX via email and if it wasn't resolved follow it up again with the adviser. Finally a disc arrived in a flimsy envelope but I never did receive a response from them. It played ok so I dropped the case as I had better things to do.
