Ok, I've had a brain fart and I cannot remember how to set my display on my 727 to read the mode I'm listening to, i.e THX Cinema, Stereo, All Channel Stereo, PLII Movie blah blah blah. I had my 705 set-up to read these modes out on the face but I can't for my life remember how I set it to do that.
Any help would be appreciated. ![]() |

I probably wasn't clear about this. My 705 would readout the audio codec on the face plate whenever I'd change a channel or watch a BR. It would retain that readout on the face plate once I made the change of either channel or watching a BR. Right now on my 727 it reads cab/sat watching TV. If I'm watching a BR it reads DVD. It's simply giving me the input readout. How do I get the receiver to read the audio codec instead of cab/sat? I can get the readout to scroll the codec for a couple of seconds, but once it finishes that, it goes back to the input. I know it can be done because I did it on my 705. If I was watching a show in Dolby Digital, it would read that on the face plate. If I was watching a BR in DTS-HD Master it would retain that codec on the face plate. I know this is a simple solution, but I just can't remember what I did to get the audio codecs to read instead of the inputs.

Yes, I think you're right! Pushing both buttons at the same time is, I believe, the answer. I will let you know when I check it out.
Thanks for your response, solarrdadd. |

Well, I know this is probably so easy I'm looking all around the simplest solution, but I cannot figure this out. It's not like it's a world crisis, but you'd think I could figure it out.
I've fallen and I can't get up. ![]() |

Surely there is someone out there that knows how to do this. It really frustrates me that I cannot remember how to do it. There is some maneuver, I believe, from the display on the front of the receiver that will allow you to set the audio codecs to display instead of the input. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll be over there holding my breath if you need me. You know, over... there.
... And I'm sorry I called you Shirley. |

i've checked your manual, i haven't seen that ability listed and if it somehow is listed, i missed it and didn't see how to make it do what you are asking.
i know it (like mine) can show the current audio information but it always goes back to showing the input name after about 2 seconds after pushing the display button. good luck. |

Don't know if it's the same across models, but on my 708 you can indeed cycle through the display options using the "display" button on the remote while in receiver mode. The available information options on the top/bottom lines are:
- Input source/Listening mode - Signal format/Sampling frequency - Input resolution/Output resolution Edit: Yes, it's the display button. Check out p. 49 in the manual: http://www.intl.onkyo.com/downloads/...7_manual_e.pdf You only have a one-line display; the options are Input source & volume/Listening mode/Signal Format/Sampling Frequency/Input resolution/Output resolution. Thanks for all the input, guys, but I know the receiver can display all of these formats already. However, I was able to get the DSP to stay on the display while watching a show. Even when I was using my OPPO, I could get the receiver to display DTS-HD MASTER AUDIO on the receiver's display instead of the input.
When changing inputs, the receiver would show the input selected but I could get it to go to the DSP and display that. There was some pushing of a couple of buttons from the receiver that you could do that would allow the current DSP to display instead of the input. And not for just a couple of seconds, but permanently until you adjusted it back to the input mode again. This is quite perplexing. ![]() |
