Oh my. Perhaps it's just the encoding that was done for Youtube, but that looks really crappy and filtered to death. Is this supposed to be a BD release?

Would be nice to have a good release of this little B-movie gem though.

Of course it's the youtube codec but we will use DNR for sure. This movie have too much grain because it's shot for SD-Full Screen-TV and it's a wonder that we can get the negative and a positive.

But don't forget, you will not see this movie in a better quality.

So to my understanding any SD-Full Screen-TV image will look softer upconverted or scaled on HDTV no matter what?

Looks cruel for a Blu Ray. I think it is a little better as a VHS Quality

Doesn't look like we are going to see it even in an acceptable quality, either, does it, if you insist on your plan of using DNR?

It was shot on 35mm and should look like film, hence *with* grain.

That it was only released on video should not matter at all in the decision to use DNR or not.

For reference, look on some other BD releases of straight-to-video or TV productions from the 1980s, like for example Dark Night of the Scarecrow (available on BD in Germany as Die Nacht der Vogelscheuche), a 1981 TV production shot on film, which looks better on BD than it ever did on TV and good very good reviews because they left the grain intact in the transfer.

+1 to that. I was looking forward to the release of Leon (A.W.O.L) until I seen what was done to The Quest and Black Eagle, I don't have much hope for any of these future releases.

According to IMDB it premiered at a film festival.

So you are the one responsible for this release?

That's a shame. If you really have the negative, I implore you to make it available to someone who knows what they are doing.

Well, if that snippet on Youtube and your attitude here are an indication of your professionalism, you won't have to worry about that.

Don't cry

We make the final master for the whole world so I think the filmmaker know's what he wants

But I know, 35mm needs grain

Ha Ha that's funny again, master of the whole world? and why did they use a German cinema copy, which has already several performances behind?

Krekel on Blu-ray.com!! That should be fun!!!

For the uninitiated: Oliver Krekel is infamous in Germany for releasing THE worst DVDs and Blu-rays imaginable. Think upscaled SD masters, DNR massacres...the whole shebang.
Before every new release he's boasting about it on various internet forums (well, those where he isn't banned yet) and when the shitstorm starts after people have seen the crap he has released he starts defending the quality of his DVDs/Blu-rays in the most hilarious ways.
Plus for a guy who has been producing DVDs and Blu-rays for many years he seems to be absolutely clueless when it comes to the technical specifics of film and video technology.

I'm outta here but I will certainly enjoy to read this thread and otheres where the OP participates.

Yes, it will be the longest version worldwide with all scenes which missing in the US-Version and the German-Version.
