Default Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Quote:
Elton John's Rocket Pictures has acquired the film rights to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's global hit play Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and will adapt it as an animated family feature in association with Webber's the Really Useful Group.

I was very excited when I first saw the story... until I realized it was going to be animated

I love stage musicals, and I love when they make the transition to film, as most of us don't have the geographical proximity to see most of them, or can afford the insane ticket prices to attend them (much less travel to a city to see them).
Les Mis, Rent, Into the Woods, Dreamgirls, Chicago.... I just wish there were MORE making their way to film. Where's Wicked? Where's Book of Mormon? Where's Miss Saigon? All are supposedly coming eventually, but at snail's pace.

Darn, I thought they'd found a way to release the 90's direct-to-DVD Donny Osmond stage version.

(We already have an animated Joseph musical, and from the Prince of Egypt producers, no less.)

Universal STILL keeps saying it's coming, and wannabe producers STILL keep churning out lame Oz reboots/origins to try and beat them to the punch...

I picked it up new on blu from Amazon (US, but came from UK seller). It only cost me like $12 shipped.

Because this's the same guy who wanted to make Gnomeo & Juliet.

Well, I guess that animated movie didn't happen. Kind of a shame, I watched/listened to this musical a lot growing up, a lot is still drilled into my memory.

This particular production of Joesph is SO successful because it IS a stage show, live, and in Glorious living color.

But it would not translate well into an animated film, just like CATS did not translate into a CGI movie. A Hollywood mess.
