Default PS3 struggles to read transparent discs

I've searched the forum for a similar issue and didn't turn up anything related. I have an 80g PS3 (installed 500g last year) and I do have the latest update also. Most discs load and play perfectly fine but several transparent discs require repeated eject/load and may eventually load after a dozen or so times but some, like Conan the Barbarian, never load. I've been able to load some discs simply by going offline, however that doesn't always work. The only non transparent disc I can recall this occurring with is Blade 2. Any suggestions?

It's possible your BD drive laser is on it's way out and might need replacing eventually, whether the laser is having difficulty due to the transparent discs I'm not sure but it may be an early sign that it's about to fail. I think drive and just laser replacements are available on-line.

Thanks, I considered that. Just seems weird that it performs flawlessly for all other type discs, BDs and games. Thanks for your feedback.

I know very little how BD laser drives work but if I speculated it's possible the non-reflective nature of the discs is giving the laser fits as it tries to bounce back but that's probably nonsense!
