What's with all these 1080i releases here of late? Anyway, 2 days ago JB's only had the SD-DVD versions on the shelf and no BD's. Hopefully, they have the BD's now, but the 1080i business is a little off-putting.

What the hell is up with BigW's prices? They used to be really cheap, browsing their site yesterday I was surprised how expensive a lot of their DVDs and blue were. JB's prices are way better.

Just a quick bump. Re-titled the thread for easier spotting. Please be sure to add the region coding of each title to their Database listing if you buy a title
![]() The titles confirmed so far (Dead & Buried, Lifeforce, Masters of the Universe) appear to show that these releases might all be Region Free? Last edited by LordCrumb; 02-09-2014 at 03:54 AM. |

Bought both Dracula and Frankenstein BD's yesterday for $14 @ JB Hifi. Both are 1080i, DTS-HD 2.0 and Region B. Haven't watched them yet but just briefly skimmed through them. Dracula has better PQ than FFF, but FFF is the best I've ever seen so far on any type of media.
I also have the 3 Fulci movies (beyond, cotld and cemetery) if anyone wants any info on them. Will be picking up The Burning, Dead & Buried and Lifeforce soon........and maybe Maniac.... |

How do these compare to the US releases in terms of PQ?

I bought these titles recently...
FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN. Shabby 1080i transfer with obvious noise reduction and print specks/dirt. BLOOD FOR DRACULA. Slightly better looking than FFF. Still 1080i and rather grainy. Both have print specks etc. I would hold off on both until they get new transfers overseas or other releases are no better. Still, JB had them for $14 each last week. FEAR CITY. We seem to have the Shout! Factory transfer. Has two versions of the film (defaults to US unrated version), but the unrated version with footage inserted from an analogue (?) source is still missing some bloodshed. Otherwise the theatrical version looks nice enough. Not really worth buying unless you're a completist. |
