Default When you buy a Blu with a slip....

OK, so I used to keep all my slips on my movies upstairs in "my" hallway closet (I don't really have a room I can keep them in on a nice shelf). But, having a curious almost-5 year old, he likes to mess with my movies because I have a lot of Disney and animated blu's. I come home one day to find my Wizard of OZ 75th anniversary lenticular slipbox torn on both ends (aaaaarrrrggghh). I calmly let that slide until a couple days ago he decided to watch Despicable Me 2 (3D lenticular slip) and he proceeds to bite on one of the edges...

So, I gave him a good talking to, but I figured that I could prevent this from happening again by just removing all slips and putting them in a box (nicely, I might add) where he can't get to them...

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm sure I'm not the only one who likes to look at his/her own collection from time to time and enjoy the slips, but I'd rather them not get destroyed.

Sorry this is kinda long, just had to get it out there

i remove my slipcovers , and put all the "UK" releases in 14/15mm amarays into 11mm-12.5mm amarays (cut a few mm of the cover if needed) and throw the slipcovers in the garbage.

of course i try to sell slipcovers / empty steelbooks / digipacks and mediabooks to collectors first :P

US 3D lenticular slip are nice to make some money from region B locked collectors

Well, like most things, this is a no-brainer. Why would anyone in their right mind let a kid handle something valuable or fragile?

I don't think this kind of issue needs a thread of it's own.

after getting a couple of Disney blu's from other members or from ebay in less than stellar condition.....I finally decided to take all of the slips off and not worry about them any longer.

When I receive my Blu-Rays from the mail or from in store, I take the slip off and put it away in my closet. If you keep slips on the case, Eventually they will get slide marks, scratches and dents. Even with very careful owners such as myself. I actually do not freak out over slips like most do, They are cool but my day isn't ruined if I don't get one or if it's damaged. As long as the BD disc is mint and artwork too. Now there is a thing to freak out about... A scratched disc! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!

That's the thing, I don't "let" him mess with them. It happened while I was at work and he finds a way to reach them

Kids are kids, I had that phase where mine wanted to touch everything. Thank God my kid is 8 now. But I gave him the talk as well and he never touched them ever again. Each kid if different and curiosity might get the best of him. I suggest taking them all off and storing them flat in a box. From your avatar picture it looks like you have another little one that will also be getting curious and grabby hands soon as well.

That's what I do, but mainly because I don't like people touching my stuff (no funny comments please), so if the slip aint sealed over, it goes in the closet.

I think you need to get rid of the kid. A Blu-ray slipcover collection is MUCH more important. Don't even know why you even need to think about this. And if you didn't have a kid, just think of how many more Blu-rays you could buy!

As punishment to the kid, make him/her read postings on this website. Expect nightmares though.

Remove all stickers carefully. Rinse. Repeat.

Agreed, the only thought I had reading this was "oh seems like this guy just made up some ridiculous reason to make a thread so he could babble on about his 5 year old kid that no one but he cares about. Just like people clogging facebook with baby pictures, no one but you gives a flying fack about what your kid does.

You read my mind! That's exactly why I made this thread. I had no intention of making dialogue with fellow collectors!

My 4-yr old knows now to mess with slipcovers...at all. She's done it now for a year without incident. I'll see what happens this year and the next.

Sounds like a Padlock and Chains should fix that problem.

And, if that doesn't work, put the Padlock and Chains on the Hallway Closet.

When monster's university came out, I went and bought it and when I brought it home, I laid the movie in the bag on my bed, well, while I don't have a two legged child, I have a four legged one, ( a yorkie to be exact) she got the movie and chewed the edge of the slipcover. The next day, I returned that one for another one with a new slip. I'm sure the employees at the store thought I was CRAZY! Oh well.

I bag every slipcovered bluray with a 12mm polybag,a bit extreme yes, but i want them to retain their new condition as long as possible. I learned the hard way to take every precaution concerning my movies with the kids around. 3 of my 4 kids are a bit older now and i dont need to worry about them getting into them, but i have a three year old so still a bit cautious. Anyway, when my now 13 year old daughter was 3 i had a large DVD collection, in short, i woke up one morning to walk in the living room and find every single one of my DVD's(still in case) laying on the floor in a neat order. So, i kinda laughed until i started picking them up and heard something in the cases. She had put a handful of sugar into every single DVD case, which was around 125 or so. I was absolutely stunned, and most of them got scratched pretty good. Anything can, and will, happen with kids. You can't be too safe.
