Default Downloading games of a different region from Sony Store

I want to buy a few downloads from the Sony store (the duck game, and maybe cars).

I have a Japanese console being used in Korea, however. I am told I can't play older PS2 games on it, unless they are Japan-region.

What about the games I purchase from the English online Sony store?

How about if I wipe the HD later... can I get the games back?

Hi,

I am from Europe, where the consoles havent been provided with the chip to emulate PS2. But that is not the case for japan, I would say that you would have no problems playing old PS2 games on your Japanes console...

The PS2 side of things do seem to be region coded so they are right.

You can play games that you download from other regions. I have no clue about the tracking of online purchases to allow for the recovery of previous downloads.

I play Motorstorm, and want to save my standing/unlocked vehicles.

Can I back this up before I format?

I think you can copy it to an external hard drive, but I'm not sure.

That would be correct.

PS3 games are region free. If you don't trust us, create a UK PSN account then download the demo of Super Rub A Dub. Or any demo on the UK PSN.

Yes. Your download purchases are IDed to your PS3. So if you put in a new HDD, you can re-download at no cost.

There's a backup game data utility. You can save it on a flash drive.

The thing with buying stuff from different region stores is you must have account details in that country, e.g. you can only buy from the american store if you have an american bank account and vice versa for each region as i understand it.

Demos and everything else is free so having an account for each region is a good thing to do, as content varies on each one.

BTW matiz, what games do you have?

It depends on how much of the address your credit card company verifies when you make a purchase. For my UK and JP store accounts every part of the address is my correct US address except for the country. My American Express credit card is the only one I could get to validate to make purchases that way because they don't check the country code. There may be other banks that would also work, but that was the only of my cards I could get to go through.
